it's vaguely like...civilization, i guess? or risk or something? but there has to be a game that's even more similar than those.
I think I got lucky with my initial positioning because Trial 4 and 5 were substantially easier for me than the previous 3.
Like you have the macro 'board' view with your turns and then the semi-real time battles that play out when you engage... dunno i just got vibes
Have you tried the Dominions game series (here on Steam)? The series is up to #6 now, I believe, and looks/plays fairly similarly I think.
Trial 4 and 5 are interesting, cause I think it randomizes the actions per god (and randomizes again every game?). And maybe the AI is not very good at using them or you were good at using them, but it really shakes up the gameplay. Sometimes you get insane auto-synergies, sometimes your regular tactic breaks because your bone-generator and spell-user are on different gods
