Barbuta Discussion
I'm really enjoying Barbuta so far, I've been taking screenshots of every screen and building out a map as I go. So far I've nearly filled out my inventory list beyond a few things so I think I'm making good progress. Thought it'd be fun to talk about the items so far and what they do and what everyone has figured out!

Items so far

Umbrella: Lets you ignore falling acid drops.
Pin: Lets you break blue bubble obstacles.
Wand: Lets you fire projectiles, doesn't seeeeem to stop you from doing anything the sword can do? But I also haven't been able to figure out if it does anything special.
Trash: Can't figure out if this does anything, let me know your findings!
Key: Not sure where to use this yet!

And also to help folks on their journey, the path through the ladders in the room just left and down from the start:

5 4 1 -
3 2 -
6 -

You don't use the ladders on the right at all, the numbers above are the order to take the ladders!

This is going to sound really stupid given that it's the literal start of the game, but how do I avoid the falling ceiling on the first screen? Am I missing something really obvious?
Jump over the block that triggers it.
Yup, it was something obvious. Thanks!

Anyone figured out a use for the Trash? Or is it literally just trash you can buy as a joke

I'm 90% sure it negates the necklace(?) item, I never got the necklace effect with the red blocks when I took it till my last run were I skipped it and they finally moved for me. I assume its a newbie trap

It does not. Just cherry'd after 7 hours - trash doesn't seem to do anything at all. Shows 52 rooms seen, 9 items found and I didn't find anything that wasn't mentioned in this thread.

Item List:

- Blood Sword, does more dmg per hit (1 shots boomerang statues) from secret treasure room. Go left 2x from start, kill shrooms, push blocks left. Go left and down the ladder and you can now get to this room. You have to die to spawn by the treasure chest. If you have the wand equipped, you will get the bat orb instead of the sword.
- Necklace, makes red platforms move, from treasure in 2x bat room. Go to the room one to the left of the 2x bat room with the treasure (via down, left, up) and look for the pool of green liquid not moving. That is safe to jump in, walk through wall on right for the treasure.
- Pin, can pop bubble tiles, either bought for 200 coins from vendor or can be found after you get necklace. Ride up the platform left of starting room. Continue left, you'll see a chest you can't get to and the floor in the room above it is blocking you from dropping down. Jump off screen to the right, then back offscreen to the left and you can get the treasure.
- Umbrella, protection from poison drops, either bought for 200 coins or found through hidden wall. Look for the room with one monster, it's south of the room with the liquid you jump in for the necklace. Look for the wall on the left
- Candy, move faster on ladders, I could only find this at the white vendor. Go up the moving platform left of start after you have bracelet and continue to the left. You should find this just by continuing that way, he's down a ladder in his own room.
- Wand, found from pink vendor bro in purple area. Fastest way to him is to go left of start, up the moving platform (post-necklace), jump off that to land by the right side of the screen. You can attack and break these blocks to go back to the title screen where you walk through the title. Continue right, then mash up in the next room to find the secret door that will bring you right by the wand bro.
You trade your sword for this. If you have this equipped when you get the blood sword, you instead will get the vampire orb
- Vampire Orb, prevents attacks from the ghosts in the final boss, you can either jump up high platforms to land to the left of the area where there's 1 mushroom, stand on the purple block in that room for ~7seconds and it will spawn. Or you can get the wand then then try to get the blood sword, which will give you the orb instead.
- Key, Flip the purple BA room and go down the ladders in the AB room in the way the BA room flipped is setup. This is hard to explain, but once you figure it out it's easy to memorize. Used to unlock door that brings you right to the end.
- Trash, seems to do nothing, only found from vendor for 50 coins.

If anyone figured out if the trash had any use I'd be curious. One of the things I didn't try was beating it 100%, having collected all of the money treasure and such.

yeah I replayed it again earlier and I was wrong, must of been some weird glitch or something on my part. I did 100% items and chest and didn't get anything specific, unless there's something hidden i missed very likely as I brought 2 eggs to get 6 full and didn't pay to have the wall destroyed.

Great Thread. Has anyone found any interactions with the TERMINAL? I've noticed that the garbled data field changes. I assume this is a built in game shark?

Also, one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that if you can get the Phantom to spawn on the starting screen, the name Barbuta will be replaced with the phrase "Loungewear Rocks" lol. No clue if that's significant at all, but it's pretty cool.

I haven't been able to access the last 7 rooms that seem inaccessible (B1, C1, G1, G2, H1, H2, H3), but I'm curious if those correspond to the 7 NPC/transition rooms that don't show up on the map. The skull ghost can end up on those map coordinates, but I haven't been able to get it to appear while I'm in any of the unmapped rooms, so this theory is either incorrect or there's a special rule that prevents it from appearing there.

Still not sure what the terminal is used for, but maybe a code would make them accessible somehow. It could also just be that those rooms are entirely unimportant.

wooo boy, all these secrets and so obscure in a game with such minimalist info too... I guess it was just back in the day where these were popular. I do commend those that are able to figure out the secrets of Barbuta, as well as sharing them here so people like me can look up later.

You guys are like the dungeon explorers paving the way for others to follow :lunar2019grinningpig:

Just cherry'd it myself. Found what pretty much everyone else did. Didn't find trash use but the only way I can think of edges into ultra pain in the rear territory. Beating the game without it naturally didn't change anything.

Like doing a no-hit minimalist item run but with trash, since I believe the only essential item in order to get to the boss is the pin, thanks to the stupid invisible ladder. Of course that means basic sword and no bat orb to help.

Or dying (or maybe to anything, just on when on the screen) to the skull on a specific screen or spot with trash in the inventory. I died to once on a screen I don't remember, but it was just instant game over.

I found the terminal code for Barbuta, I think it was Exac-Mias, I'll double check after
