Bug hunter is addictive!
I was surprised that Bug hunter is so addictive! Cool strategy in killing bugs! It's nice that the maps are random:)

Yes, seems quite deep, as well!

YES! I was so excited that I got hooked so early on in the chronology. And I loved that I kept discovering unexplained mechanics as I experimented. I haven't even beaten the first level yet but I loved all my time with it so far.

I've tried 10 games out of 50 so far, and I've only got 6 hours in, this set is really huge! So many games where you can spend so much time! Out of the 10 games I've tried, I like each one, although one stands out for me so far: Bug Hunter, I don't know why but it's so addictive! Simple in concept but difficult to play, you really have to plan how to move, how to use powers and who to eliminate first, it's also fun that the map is random and quite interactive, there are powers that can raise or lower the terrain, some enemies can also affect the terrain, you can make holes in the terrain, etc. All of this may not be anything new in games, but here it's done really well, plus the game doesn't cost much, and there are 50 games alone, and this one game has sucked me in so much :)

Yeah, bug hunter is kind of fun. It helps that it's randomized.

If you like Bug Hunter, search for "Broughlikes," the super-specific subgenre that it falls into.

Ooooh thank you, TIL something :)

I agree! I started playing the games of UFO 50 in order, and keep coming back for "one more try" at Bug Hunter. Deceptively strategic!

Bug Hunter has such hidden depth to it, it honestly makes me a little bit horrified at how big the rest of the collection is. Like I've opened one door in a corridor to discover it leads into an entire world, Narnia style, and the corridor has 49 other doors.

I find it weird that this game is between Barbuta and Ninpek chronologically.

Finally cleared my first run. Yeah this game is fantastic, with a lot of hidden depth to it and mechanics to discover. Reminds me a lot of Into the Breach, actually.

Not sure how balanced it is, though. The armored enemies seem significantly harder than the other enemy types and quickly overwhelm me since I cannot kill them fast enough.

If you see the armored enemies that's your cue to put more focus into movement and terrain manipulation, since squashing them from above kills the instantly

Finally got the gold. The module that lets you move into bugs to kill them seems really overpowered. Have that, 5 move modules, and a backup attack module and it's hard to lose. That said, it's only worthwhile to set this up if the module is in the shop at the start of the run, and that the shop is selling a bunch of move modules to begin with.

I still can't beat a single day. the best I could do is not die, but not get enough kills. it never feels unfair, but I don't have the brain for it

The way to win is to be as aggressive as possible each turn. There are several ways of killing bugs.

- Killing them with attack modules
- Shoving bugs into holes
- Shoving bugs into energy cubes
- Blowing up energy cubes next to bugs that are also on the same elevation
- Jumping or falling onto bugs from high elevation

Another thing that I failed to notice for a long time is that all straight attacks pierce. The Snipe module becomes insanely good after you realize this. Also, straight attacks can hit bugs on lower elevations. Being on high elevation is quite advantageous in general. It even protects you from energy cube explosions from below.

Also, take advantage of the fact that a newly purchased module is immediately available for use. Always replace modules that you already spent that turn.

I got to job 14 post-patch, where difficulty increases were added at jobs 10 and 13. In other words the difficulty increases after every three jobs you complete, becoming the most difficult at 13.
So I kind of feel like I 'beat the game' although what I really wanted to do was complete three jobs on the highest difficulty (i.e. make it to job 16).

The layout I got was about as bad as it could possibly be: beetles and dragonflooshes both present from day 1. So I could barely kill 3 enemies per turn and struggled to collect much energy at the same time.
Pretty disappointed, but I'm going to take a break from Bug Hunter now. In practice it's my favourite game in the game.
