Cannot find very basic required item in Pilot Quest - Help please!

I'm over 10 hours into Pilot Quest, mostly loving it, except. . . I can NOT find the
gear which is supposed to spawn randomly somewhere in the overworld. I've found literally everything else, and without much difficulty. But this thing is JUST NOT ANYWHERE I can reach. I've been over and over the map for hours, checked all the locations that it might be according to the guide that's been posted, and. . . it's just not anywhere.

I don't know how anyone can really help given the fact that gear spawns randomly and the map is, it seems, procedurally generated but maybe someone can? Or at least someone else can confirm having the same trouble? I've actually reset the whole game for a new layout, and have already been over most of the overworld map and again don't see it anywhere.

Both times I played through the game it spawned at the same place in the Forest, in a cul-de-sac a few steps north of the Forest teleporter.

My gear was in the grey stone castle just sitting by the lava, so I guess it's random.

It took me so long to find mine too. - Turns out there was one single path I hadn't gone down and there it was.

I had the same issue, (but missing more than just the gear). The path I did not see was out the left of the screen with the eastern teleporter (the one with lava around it). It looked impassable to me because of the change in ground colour.

Other possible locations not mentioned yet:
There's a screen to the right of the spider castle with skulls and octoroks, exiting through the bottom of that one has the gear sometimes.

Also if you exit north through the place with the big purple boss (just north of spawn) and continue out the top, then go west there is a lava peninsula that sometimes has the gear.

I am, like, 90% certain that I found mine on one of my first runs, died before getting back, and now have no idea where it was. Doh!

I appreciate the responses, and have checked out every one of these locations. I really think I might have hit a bugged layout or something. . . This is the weird sequence of events that led me to (I think) a weird game state:

(1) I gave up on finding it in my first run-- which was otherwise completely done-- and used a terminal code that gives you 10 meat, but resets ALL of your progress. Still, this way I figured I could spam as many trips to the overworld as necessary without waiting for meat to generate (or having to farm it). After an hour of wandering around with a map and essentially unlimited time, checking every chest location (because the gear is supposed to replace a chest location-- as every described location in this post does) . Couldn't find it. Gave up completely.

(2) I selected "reset game" from the start menu, which reset all progress and gave me a new map layout.

(3) I spent 3 hours this morning grinding through the early game so I could do a reasonable job of exploring the overworld-- and thanks to the tips here, and the guide, and the map, I found the gear in a chest location, "right of the spider castle with skulls and octoroks, exiting through the bottom of that one". Great! I went and played something else for a while, and then. . .

(4) When I reloaded, I had all my original progress from the original run back, with the original layout, as if the game reset never happened. I figured, okay, it must be that after you enter that "cheat code", no progress is saved after that, not even a total game reset. But now I was back to the original layout where, I swear, I've checked every location 10 times and the thing just isn't here.

(5) Now, if I enter the cheat code again, the overworld map is the one from the SECOND run, AFTER the game reset, where I was able to easily find the thing. But that's no help at all, because every time I reload the game, I'm back in the FIRST run, with the layout where I can't find the thing anywhere.

So. . . I think. . . something is wrong here?

Wow. . . so I finally found it, north of the teleporter in the purple forest.. I can't swear it wasn't there before, but I can swear that I've been to this tile at least a dozen times before now. Now I can finally finish this damned game!

The strange behavior of resetting the game after you use a cheat code is a legit bug, I think. But I doubt it would affect many people.
