beginner tips for porgy?
given how good the other big games are, I wanna keep at this one despite how initially difficult it seems to be. I've gotten 2-3 fuel tanks and just keep bumping into boss level enemies, any basic pointers for how to get further or is it supposed to be excruciatingly difficult

You'll want to avoid fights as much as you can, even vs normal enemies, at least until your torpedoes are in good shape.
Keep an eye out for tiles that look out of place and shoot them, as they may contain upgrades.
Keep on exploring to find more fuel tanks, so you are able to explore deeper for longer. Look at every nook and cranny you can find. You really need those upgrades.

I suggest only grabbing 1-2 things per run. Focus on whatever you can find really. Note that those big enemies can be hurt and then you can run away, if you make it back to base before dying, the damage you do to them is stored. You don't ahve to kill them in one go.

I got a great tip. Don't look at the cheating demo.
In the demo they have 3 items behind them and full air...

I found Porgy pretty; the beginning when you have no abilities is probably the hardest since you have to divote a few runs exclusively to getting your fuel up.

Once you have a big enough supply you can start exploring longer and longer and it gets easy.

Once you get the long dash ability things really start progressing.

How does the long dash let you progress? It's completely useless and does nothing but deplete your fuel, while you need the slots for other upgrades.

It depletes your fuel faster because you are going faster, but in terms of distance vs fuel, it's more efficient than swimming slowly, as long as you can get long boosts out of it and avoid walls.

Also with Long Boost + Digger, you instant kill most enemies as you long-dash past them.

I am pretty sure that's completely wrong.

I can get to the screen change from the second port, with one bar of fuel. When you dash 2 times, that's one bar of fuel gone. And you move like... 1/10th of the distance needed.
It literally uses 10 times the fuel your normal movement uses.

We must be playing vastly different versions. In mine, the upgrade is for emergency situations, because it uses as much fuel as getting hit, but at least you are past the enemy.

If you are dashing multiple times, yeah,it's not worth it. but if you can get there in one single long dash (avoid walls) you've saved a ton of fuel getting there. It's skill-reward.

FInd upgrades, find more upgrades, find even more upgrades. After enough power upgrades, destroy the first 2 bosses. After that, if your memory with maps is good, it's kinda smooth sailing.
