Combatants sucks ass
Friendly units:
Are worthless unless they've been given commands in the last 1-2 seconds.
Can only be commanded by the player ant, who has a shout radius of a few blocks
Will mess up their pathfinding on about 25% of steps even if they've been commanded
Die in 3 shots

Enemy units:
Beeline for food at all times
Don't need commands
Messes up their pathfinding frequently, but there's more of them so it doesn't matter
Conducts simultaneous search and gather operations on multiple parts of the map while sending scouts to your base
Die in 6 shots

I feel like they messed up and put the super hard secret version of this game in as the main game. The ants are balanced in 2p mode, but in campaign where they're given hyper imbalanced map advantages... they're also given myriad other benefits as above? It feels super unfair.

I don't know the developer's intention with this, but it feels like a game where the point is to learn to cheese the enemy. Get them stuck on edges, kite them since they move slower than them, exploit other things. With that in mind, I had a better time with it and did better, but I definitely found it one of the weaker entries in the collection, and I like RTS games.
I don't mind enemies being stronger, that's fine for an RTS. What sucks is how ordering your units works, they get constantly stuck, have 0 object permanence if you turn around a corner, and half the time they forget their orders halfway through anyway.

Yeah, it seems like a case where they couldn't figure out how to make a worthy AI, so they had to give them an advantage and went a little overboard. You definitely have to cheese them, and I did enjoy figuring out how!

Inspired by this thread, I made a guide to illustrate some of the cheese: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3337984631

This is the only game that genuinely feels unfinished, the early strategy games like Avianos are super polished but this one just doesn't seem to work.

The rest of the games are fantastic, this is still a colossally amazing game, but combatants needs an AI patch

I really really want to like this game. I really enjoy the idea of it, and I keep going "maybe this time it'll be different" or "maybe there was just something I was missing last time I tried."

But no, the enemies completely destroy you and your units just wander in circles even if you tell them what to do. It hurts.

Oh no, the games cheat! Like in Avianos, where i get attacked on turn TWO, with 4 tanks and an owl priest, via TELEPORT!

It's not even possible to HAVE those things in two turns!

Also, yes. Was super excited for the ant game and i can't get past level 3. It's garbage. I am actually thinking about playing the REAL old ant games. They were awesome, and nothing like this trash!

I find the worst part to be that your allies just kinda faff about when you tell them to go on instinct and wander, while the enemy AI just beelines for the food. Maybe our ants should lose in the end, because they're really dumb as bricks.
