you have to get double kills. Non-lob weapons like SHOOT can hit two enemies in a row. I am also really bad though so I also haven't gotten a clear, but I was able to at least finish One Day for the present for the garden.

Only beat the first so far but:

That 'grab an energy box and all around it' comes in quite handy.

Attack an energy box and it blows up a 3x3x1 area around it (and can chain!)

That 'blow up an egg' power comes in handy for the same reasons.

Height is not your friend.

Learn what the evolved enemies do and spare the one you're best against.

How many move/attack/etc. you want depends on what builds the RNG make viable.

Did I mention height is not your friend?

Oh, and refreshable weapons can make a life-and-death difference. Keep an eye out for them. (Well ok maybe height IS your friend, but only just this once. :p )

Go to the "Guides" tab.
Search for "Bug Hunter".
Profit!

Height IS your friend. It can be your best friend. It sounds like you don't do a lot of movement tech.

So lets talk about movement kills which is a game changer. There are two types of moves, Dash and Jump.

You get three dashes and one jump. Jump is seen as better than a dash, because it allows you to jump to a higher height.

Dashes however, pushes bugs. Any dash type movement can push bugs if they aren't blocked by height or other bugs. This means you can push bugs into holes, which is always an insta kill. You can also push bugs into energy, which does a point of damage with no explosive splash. This means you can still use energy as a weapon with no consequence of accidentally killing yourself.

Jump is good for three things. Getting higher, jumping over any hole, and movement kills. You can jump on bugs from a height. You can even jump on a bug by being on a height and jump over a hole, squishing the bug on the next tile. It's pretty amazing.

Dash also does this do, you can chain a double kill with the height to dash kill combo. (first move)Get high, then(second move) dash into the first bug squishing it, then dash the second and push into a hole or energy. Two kills "one" move. You usually pair this with shooting on the height to kill another bug on a height.

This is why great movement tiles, the utilization that allows for a reset of your moves, and the utilization that kills bugs on touch is pretty amazing.

Height is incredibly advantageous when you are the one at an elevation. You can attack both elevated bugs and bugs below you with straight shots, are safe from explosions below you, and can jump or fall onto enemies from above to kill them. Taking advantage of height is what made the difference for me to get the gold.

Another note that I didn't find out until later is that straight shots can also pierce through multiple targets. Snipe is probably the best attack module in the game once you know this.

You just need to focus on killing at least 3 bugs per turn, or more than that if you can in case there's some turns where you can't kill 3. Never prioritize going for energy to get upgrades unless you are unable to kill bugs with what you have.

My best streak is 7, and I thought it would be easy to get a streak of maybe 10-15+ going, but the more I play, the more often I find the game giving me unwinnable jobs. So there's definitely an RNG element to it.
Very often I find it comes down to the last or second last day. If you do the math, once the days get reduced from 10 to 8, in order to win you need to kill 4 bugs on 6 of the 8 turns, which is difficult if you get an unfavorable starting turn.

IIRC I disagree with this because you can stock energy, and then upgrade a spent skill to buy/replace it with another (or the same) skill so you can increase your turn length if you need to reach/kill an additional bug. Or put yourself in a position to blow up energy or a string of energy to kill more bugs.

One small tip: killings eggs does not count as a bug kill, so don't try and let them transform into eggs as a way to counter their special abilities, it is not worth it. This is also why I think Devolve is a great support action, as it has the double advantage of disabling the bugs special abilities as well as devolving eggs to let you have a proper kill.

You're repeating what I said in a different way, getting kills is more important than getting upgrades. I didn't say not to get upgrades.

I'd say focus on upgrades early on in the run, and focus on blowing stuff up once you have most of your crappy starting modules replaced.

Make sure you’re using things in the right order. You should try to avoid replacing your modules with something new unless they’re spent. Keep an eye out for things that break the action economy, like reusable weapons or the thing that lets you kill bugs by moving into them. If you don’t have those then you need to keep a healthy balance of movement and offensive options.
