What's the deal with Open Field?

I've seen people complain about Combatants a lot, and while I personally didn't have a huge amount of trouble with it (especially once I found out enemy soldiers can't turn once they start shooting), there is one exception. Open Field. Oh My God, Open Field.

I have no idea how this level made it into the game. I've beaten every other level and nothing comes close to how blatantly unfair it is. Even on my luckiest runs there just nothing I can do. I have to walk for MILES to get a sliver of resources, meanwhile the enemies practically have them piled up at their queens in advance, with twice the amount of starting units to boot.

Maybe lure the spider to their base to slow them down? Doesn't matter, they'll murder it in seconds and take all it's resources for themselves. Lure it to your own base and throw yourself into its mouth over and over while your units kill it? Nice try, bozo. in the time it took you to do that the enemy just passively farmed triple the resources you got from the spider. Go kill the unguarded queen in advance before doing ANYTHING else? It'll slow them down a little, but is also a massive waste of time you could spend getting more units. I genuinely have no idea what to do. I beat the final level first try but can't make any headway at ALL here. It's the only thing between me and a cherry disk and it's MADDENING.

Is there any miracle strategy to this that'll give me even a 1/100 chance???? Do I just need to clutch it out with like 6-7 soldiers against 30? War really is hell.

Yeah this one's really rough. My winning play was to lure the spider toward the enemy as fast as possible and then spend my lives weakening and killing other red ants so the spider could beat them without dying. Essentially you just want a run where they don't manage to effectively kill the spider.

100% what I did. Got lucky and it worked the 1st time, can't say the same for other maps lol.

By the way OP, the Cherry map is arguably worse IMO,.

I did it! Lured the spider between the two enemy queens and killed the top queen to prevent stragglers from spawning anything while I assisted the spider. I had the right steps, just in the wrong order. Thanks!!
