i just wanna explore but then uh oh the man appeared so now i have to deal with a shaky cursor while i run to the living room and then probably die to the stupid minigame cus it ends up going so fast it's impossible

Generally you're intended to hide. Otherwise you can stab him with the knife but only a couple times. I also outran him once doing a lap around the house so he gave up, but didn't play with that mechanic too much to learn the details of how it works. Avoiding doing things that cause loud noises will also make him appear less (like flushing toilets).

At worse you can just die. More of a slap on the wrist.

yeah, it's just annoying to have to stop solving puzzles cus the game decided it's time for me to deal with spooky man

i mean the spooky dooky killer guy is a very important part of the game even if he's annoying as ♥♥♥♥ also fyi there's a bush outside next a tree you can use to hide and he don't destroy it like the other spots :froggu:

Just let him kill you by screen transitioning back and forth and walk back to where you were, it's the fastest way to get rid of him.

I got irritated by the constant jump scares (it doesn't take much to startle someone -- the laziest way of doing horror). When I learned that the killer isn't actually roaming around the house, but rather appears after a certain amount of time has passed, I just kept spawning him on purpose every time when enough time has passed. That way no more stupid startles. I kept returning back to the bathroom, flushing the toilet, and there he comes.

Not 100% sure, but I felt toy room mini-game felt easier than bush outside greenhouse mini-game. Also, you can take certain paths to shake him off without mini-game.
I have to admit it did get a bit tedious after a while, but at least you keep progress and the game also allows you to deal with him about 2/3rds in.

Is this like the Scissorman in Clock Tower?
Kyresti Oct 13, 2024 @ 10:15am
Easier than Scissorman IMO because the encounters are a lot shorter. Similar 'run or die' vibes tho.

Thematically I get it, although it does get old near the end. Shooting him was literally the 2nd to last major thing I did though, so I had to deal with occasional run-and-hide basically the entire game.

But yea, technically you don't even need to evade unless you're trying to no-death (no-dreams?) it, and you can get the cherry regardless.
Dying doesn't really seem to do anything beyond put you back in the starting room. Kind of annoying, but the mansion isn't very big and you can get back where you were in a few seconds.

I assume the endings change in some way if you manage to get through the whole thing without being caught once but I was not going to replay the whole thing to find out. Other then that yeah he doesn't matter, I guess its possible you might have to fully restart if you die enough times but I kinda doubt it. Wound up kinda just standing there waiting to die later on in the game since it was way faster then hiding.

I don't think it's ever going so fast its impossible, though you are also allowed to mess up twice until he catches you.

He also doesn't appear at random (I think), but gets triggered by loud noises

Dying one or more times triggers the bad ending, though weirdly enough getting the good ending is not a cherry condition

The "bad ending" is far more interesting than the "good ending" anyway.

wait are there 3 endings then?

Sort of. There's the leave by garage ending.
Then there's the leave through the basement ending, and whether or not you ever got caught by the killer will affect the final cutscene. Getting caught is far more interesting.
