Energy Power
I keep reading about the 1:37.5k:1 ratio people like to follow. But what I don't ever read about is why that ratio is used, everyone kind of just goes along with it without ever explaining why.

The more energy power you have, the more effective your energy is. I have no clue how much better because the game, bizarrely, doesn't provide that information, so just....better.

Why not just load up on energy power then? Why would that be "bad"? It seems limiting yourself to 1 energy power for every 37.5k energy is nothing but an arbitrary limit. Why not have 10 energy power for that amount of energy? Why not 100 energy power? None of it goes to waste, it's always better.

If anyone ever explained why they stick with 1:37.5k:1, maybe this would be more clear. If the dev added in one of the most vital pieces of information in the game, precisely how much your energy power improves your energy use, that would also be helpful. But neither of these things happen.

So, why not target a very high amount of energy power?

1:37.5k (power and cap) is way simpler than you would think, it is the ratio you get by spending the same amount of exp on both.
Since most features that work with energy (or magic since it follows the same ratio) directly multiply the amount you put with the power, it ends up being the ratio that gives you the most for your exp.

For the bars, it's a bit more complex, because it also depends on what point you are in the game.
The basic "same cost" ratio would end up with a higher number, but bars have less uses overall.
Bars dictates how quickly you get your max amount of energy/magic after a rebirth and it is used for the speed in the beards feature.
Before beards, it is mostly about how long you are willing to wait after a rebirth, 0.5 or 1 in the previous ratio with energy and power is usually what people go for.
When your beards start to be useful (not necessarily right after unlocking them, usually features only start being useful by the time you reach the next titan), you tend to want to increase the ratio for bars a bit, since it gives you a decent amount of progress through the beards as well.

Another reason why people tend to raise the ratio for bars around that point is that you start to be able to do challenges quickly thatnks to quick rebirths, and when you rebirth every 3 or 5 minutes, you want as much energy and magic available right away to be able to push the multipliers faster.

As a result, bars tend to settle at 1 or 2 in the previous ratio.

And the reason for all of that is still the same, most progress for the amount of exp spent.
Of course, those are "rule of thumb" ratio, if you want to go hardcore into min-maxing, you would probably have a ratio that changes drastically at several point throughout the game.

He does. Check stat breakdowns for augs, ngus, and beards. I believe even some of the wtf pages show it. Power is just another multiplier for the features that use it.

It's also not unusual for a game to not show the math it uses. While this game does show many stat breakdowns, and some of the wtf pages show some math, not all is shown. Most of the games that I've played show much less.

Also, ratios is a community/meta thing. Why blame the dev for not handing you related data on a silver platter?

Speaking of community, the wiki has a lot of information the game doesn't show you. Even the currently popular guide mentions it[sayolove.github.io] "the output of your resources is generally amount allocated * power".

The "iirc" is what made me ask again. Though I didn't see the info shown on the stats page, so thank you for that. So every bar of power doubles the efficiency, that's good to know. I just don't know why that isn't stated on the Exp store page. I'm not asking for anything to be "served up" (that's essentially saying I'm being unfair), I'm just asking for the most useful information to be shown in the most obvious spot....where you buy the actual thing.

If you went to buy a new car you'd expect the price to be shown on the window or windshield, not under the hood behind the radiator.

The ratio originates from the informations directly available in the exp menu, more specifically the cost for each entry (and how much you get for that cost).

Your comparison with the car would fit there, and informations on how the various statistics of the car affect it would be on the specific pieces like the motor, with a big list of everything in a book-like manual.
