which items/ sets should i hang onto.
so once you get an item you arent usign to lvl 100 you can throw it away to open up space. and the next set will be more powerful but will have different special bonuses. so which items / sets should i hang onto (if any) once i have a higher power/ toughness item?

Generally I try to follow these simple rules.

If it's easy to get, and I don't see a need for it, I throw it away. If I decide I need it later, I can get it again.
If it's harder to get, I'll hold onto it.
If it was hard to get, but I know I'll never use it again, I'll throw it away.

Also it depends on how much free space I have. Early on you don't have much space, so it's harder to justify holding onto things you don't need. You're constantly getting new gear and it's usually better than what you already have. As you get more space, you may find yourself holding onto things just for sentimental value.

My rule of thumb is a bit different, I try to hold onto any item that has non-standard bonuses ("standard" are the 3 stats of energy/magic/r3).
You can definitely refine it because you will probably not need every single gold drops or drop chance for example but that's how I went about it.

That stuff falls into the category of "I see a need for it."

I also kept just special bonuses of each category. Threw them away when better ones were obtained.

You generally don't need to keep sets. To the point, that it's actually good strategy not even bother with getting them to 100 and toss them away the moment you can get better set. This is true all the way up to Megalands.

At start there are very little items you would want to keep.

So to be more specific:

  • just hold items with cooldown and respawn stats. Those are important.
  • keep all items with yiels and seed bonuses, and always have seed/yield loadout for daily harvesting
  • and it's good to keep one or two strongest gold bonuses, so you can put them on, kill the strongest adventure thing you can for money after every rebirth, and put them off for the rest of the day.

Other then that, just toss them away once you find replacement. Especially at start where gear is switched daily.

I went one step further than that. I have a gold drop loadout that I swap in at 1 hour, to get the bonus gold from titan autokill. Titans drop more gold than everything else does. And I have plenty of inventory space so why not a whole loadout for it.

thanks people! so to summarise sets arent important but the bonuses on certain pieces can be. hang onto gold drops, respawn and cooldown items till a better similar item appears,

For respawn, hold onto every single one of them even if it means throwing other items away for space.
It might sound weird since it isn't that great of a bonus early on but when you are farming itopod it can greatly increase your gains.

Of course you usually don't have only respawn items equipped since you would also train NGU and other things but those items are one of the rare ones where even the weakest of them has a real impact on the total (because of how respawn's math works).

I've found 'most' of the main slots (Head, weapon, etc) aren't worth holding onto with the exception of a few with gold drops.
It's the accessories that get you.

Been working on godmother and just pushing V2 and realizing how important move cooldown is, buuuuttt none of the gear you really have now 'gives' you that, so you need older gear.
