Question for the dev 4g
Hello. I read your Reddit ama , listened to your pod cast episode and you seem to be open to helping other new devs by sharing your experience. I'm brand new to coding and started my first project idle game. I'm very curious how you monetize your game in steam since it's free? I look up to you and how you were able to quit your job and to do this full time! For reference, my games current build is below. It's a week into development and I'm learning the coding language as I go.

Idlers, if anyone here trys it, any feedback is welcome. Cheers

Not the dev of course, but I can tell you from a coder's perspective that game programming often takes time and patience. It kind of depends on the engine you use. (I think NGU is Unity?)

Even with a great fantastic game though, getting an audience is really super difficult. For instance, NGU is on kongregate. I had a few games on kongregate and got next to no plays at all, but I'm terrible at advertising and most games I made for that "Make a game in 10 days" contest. (4g may/may not know about those)

Start small and work your way up. Don't expect a super grand awesome RPG/Massive game that gains tons of love upon release. It takes time, dedication, and a bit of luck with knowhow on how to get your game out there for people to actually know it exists.

Thanks. I'll try my hand at kongregate, but can you update a game once is on there or is it final?

I think they no longer accept uploads unfortunately, but it used to be you could update there.

Edit: Though itch.io is possible.
