How much base cap do you have?
The only real benefit in investing exp in cap at that point is to reduce the amount of equipment you need to reach it, freeing slots for other more beneficial bonuses.
But yes I'd assume that it allows you to free up slots for other things and not have to worry about giving up so much energy to do it. (IE: Blue eyes ultimate chestplate for the wishes/hacks, though I could be wrong about if these gains are decent...mostly accessories are a lot of that.)

But then as I worked through West World zone, and put on those gear items, my Energy cap fluctuated even down to 8.5 or right now, 7.1 Quintillion (using 9mm Beretta as the offhand weapon). So there is definitely room for continued improvements to base cap that is not dependent on gear modifications. My earlier concerns about having reached cap so soon after getting into Sadistic with the whole Sadistic zones and gears still to come, was unfounded.
Yes I like the gear optimizer page. I forgot when I started using it but it has definitely come in handy so many times.
