Don't worry about the boss you reach or your number, they don't matter as much as you think.
While you are doing that, spend your exp on energy stats at first and farm adventure zones for their drops.
As your stats and bonuses from equipment increase, you will be able to use time machine and augments a lot more effectively, at some point your magic stats will also allos you to run blood magic half decently (at least the first ritual) for more bonuses towards number as well, letting you defeat a few more bosses for extra exp.
Of course you can also play mostly hands-off and only rebirth when you have time but in the early game rebirthing is everything.
A good way to get EXP at the beginning is to do around 30 mins rebirths.
With 30 mins, you'll get through the Basic Training and reduce each one by 10%, and you'll reach the next rebirth time marker for your Number, and you'll cycle through all those bosses over and over again, every 30 mins.
When I started out, I did do around 1 hour rebirths because I also thought, getting to the next boss was important, and one way to do that was to run Basic Training to get more Attack and Defense to reach the next boss (basically I thought letting it run another 30 mins was useful). I played a lot and seemed to get a lot of EXP every 1 hour that made me think, yea this is good enough, what are those other people talking about?
1 hour let my number grow and go up more bosses each time, which seemed like the progress I was wanting, but my EXP gain was more limited.
I have since learned that rebirthing and keeping your number steady with that 30 mins rebirth time along with the defeated bosses every 30 mins instead of every 1 hour, you can see that it would be roughly double EXP. And the progress you want is actually to get more Energy and Magic.
You'll be stuck in the 40s and low 50s for a while if you keep rebirthing at 30 mins, since getting through to that Sky Zone was a mini-mini-wall as far as your number goes every rebirth (meaning you don't quite reach it just with 30 mins rebirth) But don't be discouraged by that. As your cost to do Basic Training reaches 1 energy, you'll be able to use that energy and EXP gained to have a more rapid growth in many areas in the near future, including power and cap and bars.
