You may unlock new zone sooner, but then you find out you dont have enough drop rate for items. You may have enough droprate and you grind zone so hard, you are losing potential PPs. Long rebirths = loss of potential Beard levels, MacGuffins, Yggdrasil harvests etc.
Today i defeated Greasy Nerd and unlocked Hacks and guess what - they are almost useless for me right now. The costs of Resource 3 is INSANE and i can barely afford to increase its cap by 10 000 without crying for lost XPs i could used for buiyng millions of energy (billions when multiplied by bonuses
After months of playing this game, i will tell you basically this: Game has two ways how to be played - rushed and hard vs. slow and easy.
After months of playing i found out that rebirths longer than 24 hours are pointless, that farming zones for sets is poinless unless you can one-hit kill the enemy - before you achieve that you will also get some additional drop rate, so waiting is a win-win (except for Titans - farming them means no loss of PPs thanks to high drop rate AND the fact that they can be farmed while idling in ITOPOD - i would unlock Titans asap).
And Hacks are... better than nothing, considering they dont need any extra investment like resources or so...
till you get beards short runs are kind of really pointless, after beards, I can see the point in shorter runs because you gain quite a bit permanently, but honestly, titan kills give more exp then running though bosses, and resetting at this point loses a few titan kills.
will probably end up doing challenges once I get my yellow heart and maybe a beardiverse set.
Truth is, there are plenty of features and each needs different rebirth for different efficiency:
- Beards - best is 24 hours, 12 hours with perks
- Yggdrasil - best is up to 24 hours, especially with proper perk that improves first harvest.
- Titans - first 3/6/9 titans with proper perks, otherwise it doesnt matter (but you need to reach time to encounter them, so usually 1 hour)
- MacGuffins - 30 minutes
- Time machine, adv. training - as long as possible to improve current stats
So yea, difficult to find a compromise.
Plus, funny part is, Evil difficulty works differently - after unlocking first evil Titan, 24 hour run is minumum to AT LEAST stay on same spot with NUMBER not falling. Not mentioning that after rebirth i need to play few hours to actually unlock that Titan.
So yeah, what is best strategy today may not be ideal next month. This game is tricky, you need to adapt :D
It does happen in normal difficulty as well but with the way the early game works it tends to only start happening when you reached a boss that is far above what you need to unlock adventure zones and you are doing the same things if not more in each rebirth anyway.
In evil difficulty you tend to reach a similar point significantly sooner, often to the point where you have to worry about defeating more to unlock the next zone, it is more or less how the early game was when the game started so it's the "normal" state for many of us.
For time machine, advanced training (and beards to a lesser extent) the "bank" perks and quirks massively reduce the interest in rebirths longer than a day.
The first 50% from perks mean that doing 24h rebirths will effectively raise those 3 to 1 day worth of levels at the start of a rebirth and 2 days worth at the end of it.
With the extra 25% from quirks it makes it jump to 3 days worth at the start of a rebirth and 4 days worth at the end of it.
With the formulas for beards and advanced training, it means that to get similar results to the old "a few days to a week without rebirthing" you suddenly need several months, making it not worth doing (since you lose so much from not rebirthing for that long, especially at that stage of the game).
Basically, the more you progress and the more you will only have 3 possible rebirth times, 24h for normal rebirths, 3 minutes for challenges you can crush and 30 minutes for harder parts of challenges (also benefiting macguffins quite a bit but mostly done for the fruit of power beta and number's activation).
