Is it kind of pointless to save the game manually?
I mean it saves every 30 seconds. Are the autosaves saved on a cloud?

Not pointless. Usefull feature to use before spending alot of exp, ap or experimenting with something. If things didn't worked out as hoped you can then revert back to the manual save.

Autosaves are local but the game also have cloud feature.

It is also very useful since you can keep a backup that is named with the version and date.

Some idle games will load from cloud or local save files (that you don't have an option to pick from) when you restart the game.

Some idle games also let you pick a save file to load from, including loading from cloud or loading from local. This is one of them.

What that means is that you can make a local save for your own peace of mind. The game even encourages you to do it by giving you AP to do that, so that is already one good reason to make manual local saves.

However, another advantage is that if you want to try some new thing from buying with EXP or Perk Point, you can give it a try to see if you like its effects.

If you don't, then just reload from your previous save that you just did and you'll still have your EXP or PP.

And what I have done sometimes, is to make a save, because I'm about to do some experimental thing, such as to check if I am in a good position to do certain challenges (which you'll unlock later on). I save the game, try out the challenge, learn from it, what to do, what not to do, how to be better at it, and then when I'm done experimenting, I'll reload back into the main game file and continue progress where I left off. Then one day, when I'm fully ready to do the challenge, I'll have a little bit more knowledge about it, or I can also gauge if my changes and tweaks helped me be better at the challenge.

So there will be many reasons like that, for which you can do a manual save.

Manual save do not get overriden so you use that everytime you "plan" use that load. Autosaves are good but you will loose them. Few reasons why/when to save:

  • as a failsave when you do something that is "prone to fail". I save every single time before harvesting Yggdrasil/daily rebirth. It happens that I forget to switch gear, or the game doesn't switch everything, or I forget I switched some trees to wrong action/poop, or forgot to spend gold before rebirth.. it saved me few times

  • if you are dumb as me you want to save often while doing challenges. It's more then 50% time I simply forget to turn diggers on for boosted EXP when I'm doing 3mins challenge clean-up

  • for the daily reward ofc (it's important for when cloud/autosave fails horibly, it might always happen especially if you use it for actual syncing between machines)

  • save before computer goes to sleepmode, load after wakeup, to get "offline progress"

  • save before restarting for challenges/going to new difficulty to have the point where you can return to if it "doesn't go well"

  • saving for doing tests. Like if you want to compare Ygg eat vs harvesting with vs without poop with some gear so you don't need to wait another day (you can also easily load yesterday's save so you don't need to wait 24h at all).

  • before you spend AP/PP/QP on something you are not exactly sure what it does. (This translates to: save everytime, because some things might not do what you think they do.)

  • after EVERY real money purchase (for backup purposes). All purchases are save based. You loose save, you've lost your real money purchase.
aaand few more shady ones (no exploits)

- you may save before throwing money to Money Pit and if you get like equip/daycare upgrade, load and shift the desired items to where it gets its upgrade

- much later, when on quests, you can use save/load to "peek" or "choose" the zone you want to be questing in (like when you forget and come back to find 200 items overfilling inventory and you need to get rid off those specifics to make a space)

- save/load can be used to get the desired loot from titan kill (works only on V1 version before you can autokill it) to make it slightly faster to get the set, might be worth sometimes.
