Working fix for crash on the splash screen
For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to jump into Archeage Unchained, but I could not get the game to load because it would crash to the desktop at the words "to guard" in the poem. I have been searching high and low for a fix to get in game so I wanted to share this with anyone this might help. Here are the steps I followed to get the game to run with no crashes.

1) Download the standalone glyph client from the Trion/Gamingo website. Right click on the installer and click run as administrator.

2) Once the download is complete and the play button is available press play. The launcher will most likely crash. Close the Glyph Launcher and right click on it and choose properties. Click on the compatibility tab and check the box to run the game as administrator. Click on "Change settings for all users" and ensure that "Run this program as administrator" is checked here as well. Then click "OK" twice to close the properties box.

3) Right click on the glyph launcher and click "Open file location" to go to the glyph folder. Click on the compatibility tab and check the box to run the the game as administrator for the "GlyphClient.exe file and "GlyphClientApp.exe file, Click on "Change settings for all users" and ensure that "Run this program as administrator" is checked here as well. Then click "OK" twice to close the properties box. (The same process you completed for the Glyph Launcher.)

4) Reboot your computer. Do not skip this part.

5) Click on the "Glyph Launcher" and see if the game loads. If it does, once ingame change the graphics settings to DX9. Do not use DX12 as it is the cause of the crash. If you can't get the game to launch one time in DX12 mode go to step 6.

6) Go to your "Documents" folder and open the Archeage folder. Verify there is a system.cfg file there. If there, is open it and verify that r_driver = "DX9" is set to DX9 and not DX12. Set it to DX9 and save the "system.cfg" file. You should be able to run the game now without issue. If you don't have a system.cfg file copy the contents below and paste it in a new text file named system.txt. Save the .txt file and change the .txt to .cfg and click yes to save it. Your game should now launch without issue. Keep in mind you may need to change the r_width and r_height to a smaller resolution if your monitor doesn't support 2560 x 1440. Try something like 1920 x 1200. Also only copy the text between the asterisks into your system.cfg file. Don't copy the asterisks.

Doesn't work for me. Did the steps through "restart the computer" and the game still crashes at "to guard." It's so embarrassing for this company to have such a buggy and broken product that you can't even launch it.

Did you try step 6? That is the most important step in the whole thing.

thank you for posting the config data!! that got the game to finally launch for me, however once in game I am unable to switch to DX11 without it crashing next time I try to fire the game up...any solutions?? I guess I can play on DX9 but it seems ridiculous when im using a 2080 super and have 16gb of ram to not use dx11...any help would be amazing! thank you

@chasemm18 Running the game in DX9 was the only way I could play. DX11 will cause the game to crash at next launch if you change from DX9 to DX11 ingame. I have a 2080 TI and 32 GB of ram. I agree it is ridiculous to have to run it in DX9, but Gamingo has not addressed this issue for months. The game used to run in DX11 fine, but not anymore until they actually fix it.

This isn't working for me. I did everything above, step by step. I even changed my paging file size, stopped all services running in the background, everything. I also submitted a ticket to Glyph and they gave me some lame response about how they're working on it. They did suggest that I rename my Archeage folder to Archeage.old, restart Glyph and run Archeage, then delete the Archeage.old folder. That too didn't work.

Where is the archeage document folder? I looked under C:// my username / documents and nothing is there. I also dont see a system.cfg file anywhere. how can i fix this issue without this folder? I see to create your own system.cfg file, but where do i put it if no archeage folder in documents?
