It's almost impossible to max out all your gear stats, which is wildly expensive but also very profitable because PVP actually earns you gold if you're good at it.
You can become a master of all trades. You can't keep all the levels of all trades at max at once, but you're allowed to reassign your trades without setting yourself back in the trades you're already good at. For instance, I started out mining and stonecrafting. Then I got a trade ship and had to drop my mining level down in order to get better at trading, which provided me with more profit because I was able to build more trade packs each day. But I was able to pay gold to restore my mining level if I decided to work on that skill later. Likewise, I wouldn't permanently lose the trading skill I had gained by switching back to mining.
Exploration is awesome. Trying to find open world farming spots to raid is truly a joy with such a great looking game. Maybe you'll commit a few murders on the way, get caught by a bounty hunter, and end up in jail for a few minutes. Or as I like to call jail, "farming time" because I escape from jail and go tend to my lands. Because this game has a huge farming system with land you actually own.
You could go on a ship into the open seas to fight ghost ships, leviathans, and kraken. I spent many hours at "piracy" (stealing from the enemy faction, not really piracy) and fighting sea monsters.
I'm not even scratching the surface on the end game here, but I think your friend never joined an active guild. Most of the end game content is made for 20+ people. Some of it is made for literally hundreds at a time. My guild used to take over treasure island once a week. We'd have massive fights vs the pirates and haranyans to ship hundreds of trade packs into the guilda star trader. It's how I earned my trade ship.
a) make your own guild and lead a bunch of potatoes, narrowing them down and making a decent team
b)tip the knee and suck some ♥♥♥♥ in game and pray you dont get triple critted the first time you fight with them
but even B doesnt always work cause the guildies are afraid to be made look stupid BTW
when i got to endgame all i could do was farm money and build expensive ♥♥♥♥ , abyssal was me trolling around with my speed boat jumping onto the galleons and annoying them for like 40 seconds,
Ill tell you what, its a good 40 seconds that only cost me my repair powder half the time
I managed to find a bunch of people willing to do mistsong but thats IT...
The end game is sims and being gay that you have something to do ...
Ima just go pick up a pen if thats all I can do
I..... but..... if.....
WUT?
Can you teach me more how to be negative ?
Thoughts exactly lol, the second reply nailed it though. The endgame is what you make it out to be, you aren't going to be given objectives/goals or anything, you decide for yourself what you want to master/explore
Personally I prefer the ocean, being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to other people out on the open sea.
