Does anybody have any decent configurations for this?

Setting the controler to generic seems to work well. All the in-game hints align to the steam controller, at least on Linux.

Works really well

Using the generic controller templates (XBOX-like) and setting the controls to "gamepad" in the in-game settings once on the main menu had it working perfectly. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the game can be fully gamepad-controlled until you start it once via keyboard/mouse and go through the menus, unless I missed a setting in the launcher.

I've uploaded my Community configuration, mainly because the only one showing up was *cough* not very good. Mine's not perfect but at least it's not an incompatible FPS binding.

The default action set is gamepad based with the right pad acting as a joystick for sweeping and a mouse-joystick for camera control (when holding left bumper). Alas, joystick mouse didn't work well for sweeping and seems to make the game play the sweeping sound excessively.
You may want to switch left bumper to being a toggle (in Activators) but I found I kept forgetting if I was in camera or sweep mode and eventually switched it back to a regular button.

Right grip will switch to a mouse/keyboard. I tried to keep the layout much the same as with gamepad but two touch menus were necessary for minion and spell selection.

Note - on my machine (a SteamOS/Debian hybrid) the game would not accept backtick (`) from the controller. I'm hoping this is just a temporary linux issue but if it affects you remapping the "Select All Minions" and changing the binding for right bumper in the Mouse/Keyboard action set will be required.

EDIT: Minor error with description. Re-exporting shortly

So far I can't get the steam controller to do anything in the game.

Running Kubuntu 18.10. KDE settings>input hardware>joystick, detects it as a steam controller but Steam for Linux says not detected. Any ideas?

If you don't have it already install package steam-devices - Device support for Steam-related hardware. That's assuming it's still in 18.10.

I reinstalled Overlord and had to go through the tutorial to learn the controls again.

Camera mode for mouse/keyboard is just mouse movement.
For gamepad control it's either a matter of running where you want the camera to point and wait for it to swing around or holding the left bumper and moving the right joystick for direct camera control.

I didn't think there was direct gamepad camera control at all, but then I read my description of my SC config above.
