Overlord

Overlord

Are there any games similar to this one?
After the unfortunate turn this series took, I am interested in other Overlord-esque games to play.

Anyone know of something similar?

Are you looking for games with this gameplay, or games with the theme of being an evil overlord taking over the world?

Both?

Primarily the gameplay though.

I suppose you could try Pikmin or Swarm, even though they aren't on steam...Or you could wait a while for the release of Tentacult which has been greenlit.

If you are looking for tone, I could direct you to the Dungeon Keeper series (aside that *ghastly* mobile game), or War for the Overworld.

how did the series take an unfortunate turn? because of the fellowship of evil?

Yes, Overlord isn't a thing anymore, they said that since the sales were so god awful on Fellowship of Evil (Because it was garbage) their focusing on racing games and only racing games now.

Eh, you never know. It may rise from the ashes one day like other dead IPs and Triumph could deliver once again. I would be afraid of bastardization but there is potential for recovery.

Shadow of Mordor?

Fellowshit was made specifically to kill the franchise, nothing more. AVOID IT.

Also, there WAS Nekro, but I'm not sure what happened to it.

Fellowship was essentially the worst thing to happen to an otherwise great series. Overlord was by no means perfect but they really screwed the pooch with fellowship.

That's a bit different, unless you play the Bright Lord campaign as that seems to have a bigger focus on the branding

Yeah.Such a shame what happened.

I mean, gameplay wise, the only thing remotely similar was Pikmin, and pikmin was probably inspiration for this. This game is more or less the first of it's kind in a form of RPGRTS- that is to say an RPG with light RTS elements.

I'd love to see a proper redoing of the original. Just look at what System Shock is doing: it's taking the existing game and asking "how do we make this even better?"

Goblin Commander (Console game).
I think one game that gives a similar experience and feeling, might in my opinion be Black & White (1 and 2). If however you're looking for a similar type of third-person strategy gameplay, where you move around along with your various "minions", and positioning them when needed, i would say Sacrifice would be a game to get.

Damn good game either way..
