Why did they have to remove the cool parts of the game?
I really enjoyed having a choice to use different parts on ships and all that, why not keep it while still having the current upgade system?

Crafting stuff was also fun, they could've made quest reward guns be special variants and kept gun crafting in the game.

And also gun stats are gone completely for some reason?? It just doesn't say anything about damage/range/firerate anywhere anymore.

We did everything to ensure that the game was released on schedule and was a finished product. It would take many times longer to assemble all early access mechanics into a single complete product.

We didn't expect such reaction from our players who had played the game before. And we understand this reaction.
We are sorry that this has left many players unhappy. In an ideal world where we would have more time and budget, maybe the game would be different.

The game is complete and in any case, I am proud of our first project, in which we invested a lot of time and effort. We have learned a lot from this project.
In the future, we definitely will be more sensitive to big changes in mechanics, even in early access.

No one knows... It's as if the devs live in an isolated little "Discord World" where they only listen to the people that continually support poor decisions. They don't care about us on Steam Forums, that much has been made OBVIOUS since this game came into Early Access...

All I can suggest is to go back to the beta branch, when things were "okay"... I have given up pretty much, except for helping people try to salvage what they liked from the game that has now been wrecked. Best of luck.

is their discord that bad? i only joined for a few moments and it seemed pretty dead barring a few people who also seemed unsatisfied about the release

It's more like the steam forums are fairly consistently the most negative part of any game community. It's hardly unique to this one.

If anything, developers selling mainly through Steam should pay more attention to the Steam Forums than any other social hub.
Most people don't subscribe to a developer's obscure platform just for the sake of one game.
You get the most feedback and gossip from the market you sell your product in. It isn't rocket science.

Seriously, what the hell happened to this game? What happened to character progression and upgrades? What happened to the crafting system? They even ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the story, what the hell is this manichean ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? They had a unique and interesting tale of conflicting interests and unintended consequences and they traded it for some 'I'm a bad guy who does bad things coz I'm eeeevil!' trash?

This whole side of the community (Steam Discussions) is as shocked as you are fren =[
No idea what is going on over there with the Dev Team...

The early access build had a lot of choices heavily spread out and difficult to do a lot of them. You might not really try very much if you weren't running around trying to do everything. Of course you also did run around and do everything because you needed to defend islands.

Now they have switched basically to a level up system. You complete something, you level up and they give you your new options. Then you pick and choose which things you dump steel into to upgrade. Nevermind the fact that if you stay active you can just max out everything about halfway through the game.

It makes most things feel less special. You don't have to succeed to get unlocks. You don't have to choose between different things. And you definitely won't have to play the game twice because the second time won't be different.

This gameplay choice is just making it good only for the people that don't play adventure games. This is for people that play Super Mario and still have indecision issues about which pipe to take.

I'm enjoying the game, but I held back from playing the EA version for quite some time, and my only complain so far is that for some unknown reason they made Elsie look less cute.

I count that as a blessing, I'm pretty sure if I played EA for long my impressions of the game would be vastly different. Ignorance is bliss I guess...

I am on said Discord and I never saw anyone suggest changes like this. And, guess what, people are complaining on that Discord currently too.
So I really don't know what made them do it. Maybe as a way to save time or something small focus groups or the publisher told them.

The Defending Islands aspect being gone is so weird. Because in the Splash in the literal Shop on Steam you can still see that feature!

Quick question, is the infamous beta branch complete? (aka, can complete the story)

I had no idea the game got stripped so much, I enjoy it, but the beta seems more interesting. But I see little to no point playing it if it is unfinished.

If you guys look at the April 19th announcement you will see they listed all of these changes. I just didnt realize how massive it would be especially the story feel. Admittedly this is not how i wanted it to go down.

I didnt know streamlined meant boring/basic :(

Come to think of it if you go into the comment section of that announcement people are complaining about the same things everyone is doing now except Devs went forward with it anyhow (shrug)

Oh well. Going to play this all the way to the end but not going to lie, so far i am dissapointed.

I wasn't disappointed until I read everything that was removed.
Then I realized I was playing a pixel art far cry game.

Lots of potential, the depth of a puddle, liberating outposts, grinding resources and collectables, linear story and progression in a large open world, meaningless side activities...

The first time I captured an island, I thought it would produce resources, those resources would help improve my equipment and the fathership, but nope.

Capturing big ships? Useless, it just gives resources.

I had played it in early access you see, bought it two years ago and my expectations were they were going to just improve the base game mechanics and finish the story and maybe improve the scene transitions etc.....

Thats the reason for my disappointment. After waiting so long and tasting what it was and what it could have been have lead to that feeling.

Its not a bad game by any stretch.......just.....i dont know how to describe my feelings lol.

This was supposed to scratch my itch for an old gamecube game called "Skies of Arcadia". Not much similarities other then skies, flying ships, pirates and fighting but still.........
