I didn't go in expecting much. Yet I was still disappointed. No depth on moves what so ever. No custom movesets for created characters, you just get what it gives for your "type". All-Stars had more depth. The N64 era games were more complex. 2K keeping their rep intact here, this is just a cash grab because they needed to get the WWE fans money somehow this year.

A game released in 2020 that doesn't have the option to search for random opponents with a friend. Yes. You read that right. If you have one friend who you wanted to search 2v2 against randoms, you cannot do that. The game is advertised as cross-platform. That means that you can search random singles 1v1 matches and get matched with xbox players but you cannot do that with 2v2 period. This game is already mediocre in every other aspect. I'm talking super limited create a wrestler mode. You can't choose music for your custom character. You cannot even use your custom character searching for online 1v1s. What's the point of making a wrestler? For offline exhibition or invite only games. If this lack luster of a wrestling game had basic expectations for a game released in 2020 then this could scrape by with a thumbs up. But to lack the most basic of ..... I FEEL WEIRD CALLING SEARCHING FOR AN ONLINE MATCH A FEATURE BUT APPARENTLY MY EXPECTATIONS WERE TOO HIGH. Do not buy this game. If you have an itch to play a wrestling game, choose literally any other. You're better off buying WWe 2K17 for $60 plus tax than this game 90% off.

It's an extremely shallow game. I've seen phone games have far more depth than this. It's sad, I really wanted to like this game. Games from 20 years ago had a larger move list and better customization that wasn't behind a ridiculous pay wall. The game has a plethora of bugs as well that bring the quality down even more.

My experience with 2K has been nothing but negative. The DLC to unlock the legends (Ultimate Brawlers Pass) did not work, and their customer support was even worse. When I contacted them about the issue, I received no help whatsoever and felt like my time was wasted. I would not recommend purchasing any products from 2K, they are a bad company who don't care about customers.

Since standard WWE 2K21 is not coming out, we got Battleground, a more arcade-y approach to the WWE universe. Sadly Battlegrounds has basically the same problems as previous iterations. Microtransactions, bugs, dull gameplay throw shadow on a good try to refresh the franchise.
