CosmicBreak Universal

[6/9 Update] My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

One year ago, I've heard of Cosmic Break Universal from lurking /v/ of all places. As someone who loved the game before things went to hell, my hopes were high. "Starting over from scratch with massive rebalancing." Sounded great! Burn it to the ground, all those thousands of dollars and millions of yen of P2W whales and tryhards. Wasted. Good. Why even try to play a game as egregious imbalanced as that. The Sugoi Gara marked the death of the game, and the only way to recover was an extreme option, a destructive re-release.

So be it. I spent a couple hundred, maybe a thousand myself, but I knew for the good of the game it had to be done. The raw potential of the Cosmic series is high. It's due to the hole in the market for the aesthetic that Cosmic offers. Mecha and Mecha Musume with lots of customization. What else is there? Steel Lancer Arena International? That game I have played hundreds of hours on? How about C21, that isn't even in English.

Half a year later, CBU Beta released. I didn't expect massive changed. It would be inappropriate to assume the game would start to play with the tight controls and accuracy of Unreal Tournament. The controls still suck, and the PVE is absurdly bare, but I deal with it. Why? Because it was fun again. I wasn't worried about getting totally rolled by fully tuned Aquila Girls, or Reshas. The only problem was when people started to discover Mighty Byne. As a competitive game, everyone copies the top players. This will never change.

But then Cyberstep noticed. They nerfed them. They dropped shield HP several times in the Beta. It's not how I would balance them, but they balanced them. Cyberstep was not afraid to do what had to be done. They didn't care if it would piss off the whales. They did it because they knew that if there are extreme outliers in the meta, then the game would die. It's not worth appealing to the whales, as when whales thrive, the rest of the playerbase suffers. You cannot have a multiplayer game without players.

Melee stunlocking gone, Tornitrus nerf, Gatling buff, Alpha Strike nerf, UC store buff, Hatigarm... buff? The last maintenance of the Beta buffed Hatigarm and Shino LG. Neurons activated. One person decides to try out Hatigarm and was effective. He slapped shields and maxed TGH. He did well, people notice, and, behold, the meta diver. Hatigarm. Despite countless requests to nerf or do something to stop him... nothing.

Now you have people making Hatigarms with 40 STR and TGH, going so far as to dropping WLK to 1 because the melee is THAT good for mobility. Then they pour everything into HP. You now have a warpy, laggy diver melee that can travel at an extreme burst of speed and hit very hard when they clip something. They even started using Beetlander HD to bypass the cooldown and further abuse the strange position approximation all melee has. If you could hit them, it won't hit very hard, TGH means all those people shooting at him just makes him stronger. But you know the worst part? Shock and Slow, the explicit counters to diving, barely work with their durations reduced an the diver packing Quick Recovey. I've shot one with a Shock Bazooka, it landed, it didn't hit their shields, the Shock effect kicked in, and... nothing! The shock wore off mid-melee! What's the point?!

So you get a half a month of that being the primary meta balance outlier. You get some other kinds of divers in there too. Crocodagger has been seeing additional popularity. At worse you get 3 Hatigarms diving at the same time. But if that's the only problem with the meta? I could deal with it. It'd be unfortunate, and should be fixed, but in hindsight, it was far more ideal to today.

With the Beta over, people weren't as against grinding. People started to grind Fractulus. I'm not totally sure what the initial desire of it was. Probably to get Frac himself to help grinding Frac. At some point, someone grabbed the Fractulus Anima. Observing it's large and high speed main projectile and nearly-perfectly accurate remote projectiles complete with boost steal, all with a nice ribbon of a good DPS on top-- They started to use it, probably with Great Range tunes, and they started to do well, and guess what happened? People copied.

The Fractulus Anima, a nearly-perfectly accurate, multi-purpose, anti-everything, M sized AIR weapon, when tuned with range, can outrange the standard ART weapon (mind you, ARTs are their counter), capable of boost restore (granted everything has a secondary weapon boost restore), lots of ammo... It's the perfect weapon. LNDs get melted, AIRs get swatted, ARTs get kited. Everyone is using it. I rarely see any other AIR weapon out there. Just the other day I ran passed 2 allied Baltheons dual-wielding them! Am I insane? No. Others have noticed this and reported it too. I've waited 2 weeks for this to be addressed, and I've seen not an official word.

The Anima started to show up around the time something else showed up. Celine Nipako. Do you want to know why I think Sugoi Gara started the declined of old Cosmic Break? They were prebuilt and had the bells and whistles. Aquila Girl had a hyperaccurate, high damaging homing blaster and was damn near the only bot with Reboost at the time. Toybox Girl had her own get-out-of-jail-free card, at a time where ART mobility was no more than Float Dash, not to mention the power and accuracy of her missiles. Mighty Byne Girl and Squidol Girl were nothing special.

Celine Nipako is armed with her own remote gun (read: perfectly accurate), powerful multi-hitting and warping melee that ends with a thorn-like binding, a unique custom dash that damages, a shield that prevents 1 shot from getting hit (but with lag its more like a whole 3 seconds of magdumping), and the ability to go at such incredible speeds that there's absolutely no way you're going to hit her with anything that isn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ raycast laser. She's even in the RT shop for pete's sake! Anyone can get her in minutes! Like the Anima, I've waited for her to get attention, and we all know how that ended up.

Every match is now plagued with legions of Hatigarms, Animas, and Nipakos. Shock does nothing to melee. Missiles can't lock to a sniping AIR. And if you think anything short of a laser from a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cactus is enough to even threaten a flat-chested pair of wire cutters then you're crazier than me.

Cyberstep's actions have shown me that they see the meta, and they have the literacy to understand feedback, and they choose not to do anything about it. Whatever balls they had have shriveled up. The health of this game is declining. I laughed at people who said "dead game" on day 2 of the beta. I dismissed all the negative reviews for "p2w" based on the game's history. I screamed at the ever complaining masses to leave if they had no hope.

Now I'm one of them. My year-long persistence of hope for this game is gone. I'm one of the naysayers, the deniers, one of the negative masses. The update made 2 hours ago was the last stand for Cyberstep in my eyes. They've shown how they treat us. How they see us. How they respond to us. Or rather, how they don't care of us. How they leave us alone. Soon, even they will be lonely, as all they'll have to their name is a claw game, and Angel Force will live up to their name.

Nevermore.

i didn't read any of this but i noticed you complained about ammo when you can literally buy ammo supply items in the shop to ensure you always have a refill every match, meaning "bad ammo" is not a downside

This. while the ammo supply item is rare there's a ton of ways around it including but not limited to tuneing.

As for everything else, as i've said a bunch before - Avoid emotional investment. Continue playing the game if you can stand it, otherwise go inactive and wait for good news to arrive. I however recommend patience in either regard because CyberStep is a slow company.

Speaking of that, definitely a can buy, but not having easier option to put it on the slot might make it collecting dust in the inventory. Opening garage causes some form of performance lag, thats gonna be annoying to do if I have to go through that just to place item on the bottom right.

Then there is a matter of wasted item... if you bring an item along with you, expecting to live long, but nah, you die enough that you dont see yourself running out of ammo. That item is going to be wasted by the end of the match as it consider you using it even though you never used the item you bought. So there is that problem.
Bring 50 hp / 50% ammo restores because the hp can help and more often than not that 50% ammo can clutch you until the end of the match, or at the least give you enough ammo to secure more kills or find in-matching supply drops. Plus you'll more often find yourself in situations where a 50% ammo restore will be more efficient to have over a 100% one, as you said you'll be tempted to keep it and it might not even get used.

Tl;dr The 50hp / 50% ammo item gives you more flexibility over the 100% ammo item.

huh. I actually wasn't aware the quest items could work in arena. Nevertheless, moving on. . .

I don't fully understand the grammar of the first paragraph. But yeah, the loading trouble with the garage is frankly the most annoying thing in the game. (to me at least. I started out emotionally dull and have become progressively more thick-skinned and stubborn from human interaction.) I'm used to it because I was a beta player from the original service. . . but it's still a tad annoying, even to me. I can only think optimization may fix it, but CS is bad at that.

As for the second paragraph. . . yeah. That's just a thing about predicting what you think you'll achieve in a match. . . which is a skill of it's own. Also worth noting - supposedly, WBs have been reworked to only use 1 per match period, as opposed to the old, "consume if duration ends / destroyed".

the game is clearly in a state he finds wholly unenjoyable and your repugnant ass is sitting here trying to convince me he's "stupid" for not playing a game he clearly isn't having fun with

i don't know what the hell you're trying to say but it's clearly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid so i want you to stop attempting to say it.
Today is Wednesday, 6/2. The update patch notes have buffed many unguided weapons (good), added Maril March back into the mix, and most importantly, threatens the "balancing" of Nipako, her Custom Dash, Beetlander HD, and Frac Anima.
Though it may be a month too late, the outcry from their balancing statement a few weeks ago seems to have caught their ears. Knowing 7/7 is far too long to let a blight continue, they are going to hack at the infections in a week.

This threat alone is a good sign. When it comes to fruition, I can see a good chunk of the community returning, myself included, at least to see if the abusers who persist in their endeavors to find the most busted thing are shown to be less effective. Of course, the damage has been done, some people may not return, and the one thing I wanted from the Garas the most (Blume) has been retired. Perhaps she'll return someday. Unavailability of items in retired Garas is the 2nd most frustrating thing about the monetization.

But let's not count our chickens before they hatch. I'll be occupying my time with C21 still and anxiously wait for the next patch notes. With any luck, 6/9 will be a nice day.

... By the way, Vanguard Lancer's lance explicitly states that it's travel range is based on WLK. This is AMAZING and should be standardized to all melee. Hell, I bet I said the exact balance suggestion somewhere before.
Today is Wednesday, 6/9 (nice). The update threatening the balance of a few key problems has come in. Patch notes can be summarized as "Nipako no longer goes lightspeed", "Beetlander HD has way more INT and might have global cooldown", and "Anima has almost a second of charge time, hits with 1 less force (effective 12.5% decrease), and it's main shot is smaller".

While I would say these nerfs are a little too gentle, I have noticed out of 7 rounds today that the Nipako, Hatigarm, and Anima levesl were greatly reduced. I don't know if the nerfs were effective in their job in making these things less nuts, or if it's the abusers didn't want to use something, say, "tainted by the nerf hammer".

Either way, I'm enjoying myself again. I find my Shock Bazooka to be ever so slightly more effective, but that might be because there's less Hatigarm rushers or less lag overall. Game is still not perfect, of course not, it'll never be with these controls, yet if I can enjoy myself, I'm happy.

A slow response might be a response but it is still a slow one. My words may have value as an archive. Mistakes happen, and must be rectified quickly before they cause as much damage as this. To put it short, Cyberstep, either "Keep up the good work", or "Don't do it again".

Now then... Where's that Alba V-03, I could use his blast laser...
we now have something better than anima frac i guess you guys have something new to cry about now teehee <3

Like Dia said.
Remotes are a mistake.

At least give Arts Remote weapons Cybershits. We're waiting.

Arts have that K Nana BS which can spawning nukes right top of your Airs and deal a lot of damage and stun. it's basically a better version of remote weapon, but it's sub weapon and fixed as 350 range (can increase by long range buff)

Ogreil BS2 is remote weapon but I never see anyone use it for some reason

Because K Nana BS can wallhack so user can play safe by hiding while spamming it. Anything not standing still or moving like turtle won't be hit by it though.

My Airs (34 Fly) fly straight still get shot anyway, only way to dodge it is staying away from its range. pretty sure it got buffed massively in CBU
