Chapter 3: S Rank
Has anyone else finished chapter 3, with no assists & not made S rank?

Same here, I only got the A rank.

I ran into the same issue in the Switch version yesterday. After replaying the chapter, I found the problem: it is possible to miss one of the puzzles inside the bar if you progress through the story too quickly.

The game doesn't really indicate this very well - it only unlocks after a scene plays out elsewhere, and you don't actually need to head back inside the bar after that.

I rushed through the second playthrough, so I didn't really pay attention to *when* it happened - I just made sure to check every optional location before progressing the plot - and thus I can't tell you *exactly* when it appeared, but if you keep checking back at the bar before advancing each step of the plot, you should come across it.

Thanks for the heads up @Pidgeot!

Did you have to re-solve all of the clues, or were the ones you previously solved already items to pick up when you investigated?

You have to redo puzzles. Haven't found a way to skip through dialogue either.

As omega64 already indicated, I had to replay the entire chapter from start to finish.

It did go much quicker just from knowing the puzzles and spamming the A button to rush through the story. As a rough estimate, my original playthrough of this case took about 4 hours, while the replay took a little over 2 hours.

FWIW, I haven't finished Case 4 yet, so I'm not sure if this issue can also happen there.

Only happened to me with Case 3 at least, but maybe Case 3 just got me to be more thorough after. ;)

I just finished case 3 and must have missed this puzzle. I'm pretty annoyed.

Not 100% sure if it's the same one for everyone, but the one I missed the first time was in the Bar right after Crispin first appears (though I haven't finished my second run-through of Case 3 yet, so I could still miss/have missed another, but I know I missed this the first time).

The puzzle itself was: a Speaker.

Also, this was in the Switch version, so take it with a grain of salt.

Same here, playing on Switch, just got an A because I missed the hidden puzzle. I hope the devs will give us either a dialogue or puzzle skip function to replay each chapter, I'm definitely not going to replay it from scratch to get an S.

yup, same deal here. that's really quite obnoxious if i'm being honest! i'm trying to be thorough here. it'd be easy to make this just a required puzzle to progress the story, and/or not make s-ranks 100% perfect all the time too, especially since there's content gated behind them! augh. definitely has to be a better way than "literally do everything all over again" at least.

Same here. I was trying to be as thorough as possible :( Really hope the devs tweak this as although I've been loving the game, this has really frustrated me :/

From what i could read, remember to speak to all characters, even the queen drag who is outside near half the mission.
She is speaking about her past (why she is know from the justice) and that unlock a puzzle too ! :)
I did the S.

Quick note: I'm on the PC version and think I had the same issue.
MadameHardy Mar 18, 2020 @ 12:24pm
I had the same problem, too. I think this is a bug. Even though the case *can* be solved, it is too easy for users to miss a puzzle and never realize it.

I think there's a reasonably simple fix. Since it is possible (I did it twice) to solve the case without encountering the puzzle, put in a line after the final scene about "You solved the case, but missed one clue. Click now to solve it."

Not exactly a fix to the problem, but a way to set "S" rank in those cases without replaying again:

- Go to \Users\{your-username}\AppData\LocalLow\Mediatonic\Murder by Numbers
- Open MemoryProgress.txt
- Set the value in "CaseRanks":[x,x,x,x] where index of a number is the chapter. Use 6 for "S" rank, e.g. "CaseRanks":[6,6,6,6] would set "S" rank for all cases (likely you don't want that before you finish each chapter)

Hope that helps!
