Ai generated art?
not trying to start a fight here or anything, the art in the game looks really good, way better than anything i could draw myself but i find it weirdly flat in some places, did the dev use AI for some of these?

no AI iirc, it is made by actual artists
given that we have had to wait for several months for updates because we're waiting on the art, it better not be AI generated

It's pathetic how triggered people are over AI art.

Why wouldn't they be ?

The reason for the wide variety in the card art is the same as in MTG: There are dozens of artists who have contributed to the cards, and you can even turn on per-card artist credits in the options menu!

I dislike AI text and image generation too, but that's why I did the research to learn how to actually tell the difference between art and computer generated images.

Here's a crash course: Look at partially concealed objects, like a horizon, held object, or a clothing pattern. Artists sketch the whole object on an underlying layer or understand that a dress has a consistent pattern, AI doesn't understand layers and generates objects in small pieces that don't line up if there's something in the way, and the details of a pattern will shift on folded cloth. Similarly, proportions and shading/reflections are often wrong because the AI doesn't understand that the image is a representation of a 3d space, even when ordered to include detailed reflections all it can do is guess what angle of the reflections/shadows is correct.

AI generators are human, and tend to be lazy if generating a lot of images. without a source, 100 images with wildly different styles are way less likely to be AI generated than 100 images with a very consistent style.

im mostly talking about the character selection screen, i don't know why but the art there seems a bit worse than the cards

Its was much worse 2 years ago, the selection screen were scuffed semi finished draft drawing. Looking at the speed they released the art, yes even the screen selection. I doubt its AI. They also dont have artifact as far as i can see.

I think small part of it is an AI art. Not sure which one they alrd replace and not with finished art.

I didn't notice any marks of the beast so to say. If any of it is actually AI generated, I'd be very disappointed.

The reason people are "triggered" over AI art is that when someone makes a product that they sell, the people who put in work for the product ought to get paid for it. Nobody is saying AI art cant be used by amateurs or people messing around on their own since you arent monetizing the work of other artists. But AI art shouldnt be used in any game or other product/service that is being sold unless its trained exclusively on free art or in-house art.

Its not that hard to ask your community for fan art or to pay artists for their work, and its also the right thing to do so that people can actually learn how to draw and know that there will be jobs for them when they've reached a certain level of proficiency.

Yea its really funny.

Palworld was also filled with this bs before, like the witch hunter dont even knew what theyre talking about, if anything they just use classic randomizer that exist way before AI generated stuff became a thing.

Also this game is probably the best way of using AI art if they did ethically, because they only use it as scuffed place holder in beta, and still deliver an actuall plolished art piece once theyre done.
