Advanced beer types
Is there a point in unlocking something like the dark beer? They all sell for the same base amount, accept the same ingredients and take the same amount of time to make. You can get full variety with 4 beers.

Trands can ask for different beer types.

Trends and the billboard requests that give exp will require the variety.
But there is nothing that actually forces you to have them.

The billbord will only ask for items you have the recipes unlocked. If you haven't unlocked any new food / drink recipes the billboard will only request plae ale and / or poridge.

So basically it's only to follow trends. That's disappointing.

I only Make Stout Now because once you get the ability to make Roasted Barley on the stove you can make a Bunch of it with just Barley

Mead is a little quicker to Brew but it sells for about half of what the other Beers do.

Beverages count towards the "menu variety" bonus to sale price / rep, so having four different beers / mead in stock gives you a small boost (if you have the patience to empty the kegs into mugs, you can have more types).

Considering that it is now harder to consistently offer every type of food (due to more restrictive ingredients and lower availability of animal products), that extra variety in beers is more worthwhile than it was in the past.

Yeah, but you get 4 types of ale super early and there are no real differences between all of them (except mead, in that it sells cheap and therefore sucks). No special taste, no added ingredient differences, no change in sell price, nothing.

True, but my point was that the game considers each of the beer types to be a different item, even if they are pretty much identical from the player's perspective, so they potentially represent an additional 14 (?) items that could be contributing to the variety bonus. (Although manually dispensing kegs to actually have all the types in stock would be a right PITA.)
