Lost Items while moving chests

So I had a big chest full of food, and I picked the chest up to move it so I could place a 2nd big chest for more storage, but when I put the full chest down, the food was all in my character inventory and now a good chunk of the items are missing and I can't find them anywhere. Did they get deleted? Is this a glitch? Or are you supposed to empty chests before moving them?

There is a specific "move" command that can be used to move objects, and if you use that it should be fine to move them when full. However, if you need/want to actually pick up a chest and put it in your inventory, it is best to empty it first. Otherwise, all of the contents will get dumped out. Whatever didn't fit in your inventory should still be around on the floor somewhere, but it may have shuffled under/behind other furniture, so you may need to move stuff around. But if you have saved or logged off after picking up the chest, your items may have despawned.

If they are decoration items you will find them in the big chest outside. I check it every once in awhile to find the odd thing in there.

Food acts differently, it will just hang out wherever you "dropped" it.

No worries... It will sit there just fine until you come back and get it.

In fact, I will leave something behind while shopping on purpose just so I can continue shopping in one trip, and then will go back and get the stuff the next time I have don't have much to do or until I actually go shopping again.... ?B)

I did accidentally pick up the chest into my inventory while moving it. I didn't notice anything was gone until after saving/logging out. Haven't checked under the new stuff I added to the room. So all of it would have despawned? :(

Sometimes.... It depends on what it is.

From what I can decipher, things you have to close the Tavern to install end up in the big chest outside whenever you "disturb" them or pickup / move whatever they were attached to or were in.

Food items like fruits and meals will just hang out in the air and float around wherever they were pulled from. You can leave anything like that floating around, it never goes anywhere.

I have worms I dig up that will sit for weeks or months until I forget they are there and accidentally pick them up.

I have yet to have something truly disappear unless I throw it away in the bin. They always end up floating around wherever I didn't have room for them or where I left them or in that big chest out front.

Any other behavior is new to me, I haven't seen or experienced anything else.... ?B)

Found the missing food! :D It was in the chest outside. I didn't realize that would collect dropped food and not just building materials.

Thanks for reminding me what that chest actually does. It made me curious to check it.
