thats the roadmap, no timeline other than early (Q1) 2025 for multiplayer.
Instead they built up a nice foundation and then some before getting online multiplayer working. They get complaints story mode is taking longer. Ultimately it's a lot better for them to integrate it at this stage because of complications.
Let's say they added everything in then online play, but because of that there's a ton of reworking they need to do to make online play work right. That's easily avoided by adding in the online play now so they can work in the rest of the content to work smoothly with online play. Ultimately this way could reduce overall development time.
It's a good thing they added multiplayer before adding more story content, the earlier in a project you add multiplayer the easier it is to not have it break absolutely everything if you try to add it later on meaning shorter dev time to get it working. As an added bonus the rest of the stuff on their roadmap is stuff that takes a lot less time to develop than multiplayer so unless the devs take a break, once multiplayer bugs are ironed out the rest should come fast.
I really love this game. I'm always hoping for the best on its continued development.
