I was literally about to make a post about this but you beat me too it. Just from the first minute of the game preview I saw so many similarities that it just cannot be a coincidence. From NPC names, the layout of the barn and the graphics... I would definitely agree with you that this looks a bit copied.
Thank you very much for your answer, I had played Stardew Valley a lot when I was in high school, so I think I will buy Traveller's Rest too.
This is not one of those games. The graphics and gameplay are similar, but the concept is unique. I appreciate that completely. The primary mechanics of this game are cooking and brewing, and the rest of the mechanics support as secondary. I agree with @Highly Refined Pirate - this game heavily draws inspiration from Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper, but it has produced something unique that I would certainly recommend if you like either game.
i don't know about the names, because i haven't got that much time in the game yet, and my name memory is terrible, but i suspect the barn layout to be less oriented with those from stardew valley, but... you know.... barns. its only so many ways you can shape a rectangle room with hay for animals.
that being said, the artstyle doesn't actually remind me of stardew valley at all, but of graveyard keeper. i mean you can literally re-create the main character from that game as your avatar. but as i like the style and it brings enough new stuff to the table i don't really have an issue with it looking very similar.
also, its stylized sprites, meaning some similarities are to be expected if you also want it to look nice and fit a similar tone, i think.
"Oh no!!! A game's HUD looks the same of another good game!!! It's a copy!!!! I never played it, but I just know it's a copy!!!!!"
Please, learn to read (and to play while you're at it), and you'll discover in 1 minute it's NOT the same.
It'd be nice if the game would focus more on the tavern running again, in the sense that the adventuring, resource farming etc is necessary -to- run the tavern. Right now the cooking and brewing feels more like a plain shipping box than the actual core of the game.
