Farming Trees
I think the game is excellent, and have very few complaints, but I am finding that now with the introduction of fruit trees that the total output of my farm has fallen pretty significantly. Given the amount of space they require to grow, the relatively small amount they produce, plus the fact that they only last after a few harvests means that I am finding it difficult to obtain enough produce to keep my tavern running smoothly.

Given that I need rather a lot of limes to complete the Halloween quest, I sowed a fair number of trees, all of them together filling up space that I usually use to grow trees for wood. I found that gaining just 6 limes from each tree before they died was a little disappointing and left me short of what I needed. I also usually like to use both lime and lemon in some of my spirits, but given that I am always short of them due to the farming changes, I end up substituting them with fruits that grow better and produce more at harvest. That makes for a less interesting experience if I only make recipes with the same ingredients every time because I lack some of the others.

I don't mind the idea of planting trees, but I feel they don't produce anywhere near enough to justify the space they take up, not to mention the time they take to grow and the time between harvests.

Yes! With the amount of space they take up and the time they take to grow, you could have already harvested at least 16 limes with the old system using just the 8 spaces a single tree now takes up. Not to mention they now take twice as long to grow and don't even regrow faster than normal crops. When I first saw the tree's sprite I was super excited because it looked full of fruit, then you harvest it and it's just 2.

I have pretty much limited my fruit types to melons, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. All the others now take so long to grow and produce so little that they are barely worth bothering with.

I ALSO FIND IT TOO LITTLE

Big agree. There's a lot of smaller stuff that I quite hate or dislike where the game went since the overhaul, but how produce is grown (especially fruit trees) is my biggest gripe. Thank god I saved almost full stacks of all the fruit prior to the changes, otherwise this would've been a nightmare. But now as my stock dwindles thanks in part to the Halloween quests, I'm running into this reality a lot more and its insulting that a tree that takes so long to grow and takes up so much space gives 6 total fruit over the course of 3 harvests every 2-3 days. The trees either need to 1. (re)grow faster or 2. give a lot more fruit per harvest.

Since the devs modeled this game after Stardew, why not take that game's approach to fruit trees? 3 fruit every day seems fair.

I agree the new farming system is annoying and makes me not want to play the game.

3 fruit a day per tree? Not even Stardew does that. It still takes 3 days for Stardew trees to produce max fruit. The game does the "growing" part the same, but not the harvest-able amount. And I'd assume, seeing as there's a "farming output increase" skill, that it's because of that skill. Fruit trees are lumped in with the output skill and so they also "double" their output. Though I'd argue that 200% output should give 3 fruit, not 2.

Let's also not forget that Stardew Valley's trees don't produce fruit in certain seasons (I know this game doesn't have season yet, but just sayin). The only way to get fruit all year round is to put trees in the greenhouse.

This comment is to show how absurb and incorrect your logic is. However I do agree, like the rest of you, that the farming mechanic could use some work. It also takes forever to dig and till land the first time.

This isn't stardew though, and farming trees in that game is also my least favorite thing to do... I only plant them for the CC and gifts before I can farm rabbits.

I think the main gripe here is that you'll be using a LOT more fruit in TR than in SV, and the tree sprites show a tree full of fruit before you harvest and then it's just 2. Not to mention, these trees last 3 harvests, SV's trees live forever and their fruit gets BETTER over time, In SV's case, you have a guarunteed 1 fruit harvest every single day of the month, for 28 days, that's 28 fruits per tree per year assuming there is no greenhouse and it grew before the start of it's season. These numbers are not even comparable, and it's illogical to base this game's tree output off of SV's mechanics when the farming in both is so different.

Actually, if you want to compare it to SV, for three harvests, 28/3 is 9.33, rounding down, each tree should give 9 fruit each harvest before it dies.

How do you plant fruit trees? They don't plant like crops or like normal trees. I'm confused and can find no info on why no spot not cleared, cleared or tilled is good enough. I don't love how huge their grow space is but I'd put up with it if I could just get them in the ground and no where in the game will tell me what I am doing wrong.

You can plant them on a 4x2 tilted space, they took a while to grow and can be harvested 3 times before vanish.
