It would have been much better if can turn them off with a button like we do for the fireplace.
So, we can turn off a whole fireplace that is supposed to be much difficult to do but we cannot do the same with a single candle using a simple blow...
That thing should be changed in this game. It makes just no sense.
The fireplace only needs to be on when it's night; if it's on during the daytime, the tavern is too hot and your customers will be unhappy. Candles on tables, on the other hand, need to be lit whenever the tavern is open, regardless of the time of day. So there is a gameplay need to control the fireplace, but the only reason to be able to turn the candles off would be to save a little bit of money.
Money... that's the point of the game! Making money... spending it cleverly. And to use your day and night argument, it's the same with a candle. It's completely useless during the day.
About the Fireplace, I know all this. The point is we can turn on or off a fireplace easily but we cannot do the same with a candle. With a simple blow you should be able to turn off a candle. Try a simple blow on a fireplace just for fun...
Customers don't mind having the candles on during the day. They do mind having the fireplace on during the day. So there is a gameplay reason why you need to be able to turn the fireplace off.
And the candles are cheap enough that it's really not worth worrying about. Selling a bowl of porridge a day per table will keep you in candles.
You need to be in build mode AKA decoration mode (B key by default). The smelter also needs to be outdoors.
