Is there a "bookmark" ui that will be implemented, allowing us to save recipes we've created or do we need to memorize/mark down what they are?
So far I'm loving the game and I'm excited to see where this goes! Thank you, Louqou!
+1
but very good game
Here's some thoughts that have crossed my head while playing:
> A way to make the player more distinguishable. Considering the character customization is very bare bones at the moment, when you fill a room with NPCs that all look similar, I loose myself very easily. Walk into things, can't pass, spend minutes playing finding Waldo. Would it be possible to maybe add a glow around us, or change the player base a little so we're more unique?
> Rerouting the sprint key. Super useful ! But considering I have to use my pinkie to reach it and press down, I never get to use this really nice feature.
> Sort Inventory ! The messy inventory in this game is the bane of my borderline-OCD existence. It's not very easy either rearranging it manually so a way to auto sort would have me kissing your feet.
>Crafting Range. Inventory is a huge issue for my game enjoyment. I can't use as many ingredients as I wish I could because my inventory is irreparably full and it dampers my experience a lot. I'd love it if there was a way to connect the crafting stations to chests sitting beside it like the fridge is connected kitchen in Stardew Valley. That way, you'd click say, the brewer, and get a pop up that's your inventory + whatever is in the chest sitting next to it. It'd expand the ingredients I can use and diminish all the tedious back and forth !
>More decor. I have no doubt this is something that will be expanded upon, but I really wanna stress how important decorations are to me. They're personally my main motivation to even be making money in the first place and I think adding some more options at the earlier convenience would improve the longevity of the playing the Early Access !
> Make the magic brooms functional in the inn rooms. Please,,, I beg of you,,, people are so nasty,,,, let the magic brooms work upstairs.
> Ranching + Fishing I don't doubt this is like, a hefty suggestion and something you guys haven't already thought of but, just wanted to express my heavy interest in this. I love having the option to buy meats and fish ! I just feel having the option to do it yourself would be super healthy to breakup the constant inn grind.
> More pets. I think this is just the gaping wound that Stardew left in my heart speaking but I'd really love,,, to fill my inn with just,,, so many pets,,,,,,,,, (I'm a hoarder, and this game caters to me so much because of it)
> More patron dialogue. I adore it when they accuse me of being a cultist. I would have so much fun discovering all the different dialogues if there were some more. Minor but I feel it'd make a big difference to bring everything to life ! The sillier, the more my heart flutters.
> Auto hire the help. Mostly a personal gripe but I find it very tedious having to hire and rehire them over and over. An option for them to show up every morning at 8 and leave at midnight would really be a huge improvement in my opinion.
Thank you so much for the wonderful game ! And sorry about all the word vomit, I hope I was as clear as I could be, and this helps in any way. I'll go drop you guys a good review in a moment !❤
I second a vast majority of this, with some additions of my own:
1. Make the player start from scratch. Since I recall in a chat that you mentioned Stardew Valley being a major influence and that you were-- essentially-- making this a sort of farming sim game with an emphasis on craft brews, it would give more life to the game and add more complexity if the player started from the very bottom. Example: start a beer tent/stand with a particular talent (beer, wine, ale, etc.) as the player's base specialty. From here the player can make money and grow more talents, and will eventually make enough money to buy a piece of land where they can build their tavern (which starts out fairly small but can be upgraded). This game is lacking an actual goal besides upgrading the second floor to make an inn. I, personally, want to feel like I earned my business, and that, yes, this is MY tavern.
2. More customization cannot be stressed enough. Currently, everyone's tavern looks the same, and it's boring. The decorations are fairly minimal, and we can't even change the color of the wood, so eventually everything starts to blend together and look kind of bland. Bleh.
3. Quests. I mean actual quests where we have to go out and slay a magical pig beast to make some legendary honey ham or something ridiculous. The order system is fine, but it becomes tedious and after a while I didn't even bother with it. If we're in a large kingdom, make it so the player can go out adventuring for special seeds and ingredients-- and maybe so we can even run across other players/NPCs that might be in need of our particular craft brewing talents.
4. Add a weather/season system so only certain items can be grown during certain times. This adds more difficulty and intrigue to the game, which it so badly needs.
5. Better NPCs in general. That we can interact with and do quests for and get special items.
6. Dungeons. One of the best things about Stardew Valley is risking your little farmer's life to go into those deep, scary dungeons and bring out some amazing ore and materials so you can craft some pretty darn good stuff. Just a thought. If this is too much, just stick with making a crap-ton of quests so the player can never say, "Aw, man! There's only like ten of them!"
7. Add morality. I thought about this a lot. Since we're running a tavern, there are bound to be drunks, alcoholics, and addicts, among the general social setting that we have. We do have drunks/unruly guests, but give the player a choice of fostering someone's alcoholism when they know this person has had enough. It would be very interesting to implement a morality system based upon things like this, meaning the player can only do certain quests when they are at a certain morality (and morality is not fixed, as the player can keep running the tavern and decide to cut the NPC off the next night, which will then raise the morality onto a more positive note).
However, the most important of my points are the top five that I have listed. Points six and seven are much more complex and may not be doable within the next year (which is when you plan on leaving early access).
I hope this helps, and I look forward to more updates. Thank-you.
More Staff: a barde or dancers etc. would be awesome as hell.
Yeah 1+
Objective - To manage the greatest tavern in all the land. Currently we are not feeling this. We need a small and insignificant starting point from which we can grow and expand to a bustling and thriving tavern actively involved in the kingdom.
Upgrades - This already exists in some small parts, unlocking hired help, the farm, the upstairs but there is so much more possible. I would suggest tavern expansions that can be purchased by the player. Expansions to the bar, the dining room, the players bedroom (workroom), the kitchen, the brewery, the guest rooms, the exterior. (developer screenshot shows outdoor seating) Some features might need to be unlocked by reputation but specific individual upgrades could be player selected and purchased.
Furniture/Decor - Similar to the others, we would simply like more. I would also add that it would be great to have the option to customize certain aspects such as colors or material.
Hired Help - Has been touched on in other posts but my thoughts. Option to hire temporary help, such as the current system which requires daily hiring, or the option of permanent hire. This could bring in a whole new system which allows the player to manage work schedules, customize employees appearance, assign tasks and develop employee skills. It would also be great to see more hired help options such as an inn keeper (clean rooms), a bard (+ comfort, special events), gardener and so many more.
Farming - Quite simply it needs more depth. I get that this is not meant to be a game about farming but if it's going to be a feature shouldn't it at least be interesting and enjoyable. Currently it is more interesting to order the special items when available and not worry about seeds, planting, and harvesting. I feel that adding seasons and growth cycles for each type of plant would go a long way. As well as adding crops that aren't destroyed once harvested, rather revert back to an earlier stage.
Crafting - Would be great if it was a little more in depth. Currently 1 blueberry has the same effect as 1 watermelon but as discussed in farming, they take the same amount of time to grow and are basically interchangeable. System is fine for now, but developing it a little more would add to the experience. As Hime Tarts mentioned, having linked chests to the crafting devices, or just a greater interaction range would significantly help with the crafting experience. There are already so many ingredients, we just need to be able to better manage inventory.
UI - Please make the UI customize-able, including move-able windows, adjustable size, option to keep windows open or close them such as current and upcoming trends, auto-sort and filters would also be awesome. If possible, would also be great if there was an empty keg indicator or an option to stock the bar with extra beer kegs that the hired help could then load into the tap. In my game, I currently have a chest next to the bar where I store all my extra beer kegs for easy access but checking to see if the taps are empty becomes very tedious.
New feature suggestions -
I second the idea of Ranching/Fishing. Variety is the spice of life and all the extra features/opportunities that it would bring.
Saved recipes. With a bigger, busier tavern we'll need more food and drinks. With linked chests full of ingredients it would be awesome if we could have custom recipes saved with the option to select it from the list just like any of the basic food/drink items. I could actually set a menu with beer/wine pairings and not have to click-add every ingredient every time.
MORE TAPS!! I want a BEER HALL. Maybe an option as furniture or a tavern upgrade to install more beer taps and special taps such as Nitro. Would also be cool if we could mount them on the wall instead of having them just on the bar. Would also like to see customize-able handles even if it's just the ability to change the color so I can color coordinate the beers to the taps.
Finally, adventure! SNValadez suggested a dungeon, and the option to go exploring ourselves. That would be awesome as well but I was thinking about hiring my tavern patrons to go on quests for me to find rare/exotic ingredients, trophy decorations, trophy tap handles *wink wink*
Regardless, I am looking forward to whatever your currently brewing up for the game.
* Mint and pumpkin as an optional ingredient for drinks. Perhaps pumpkins should give the 'sweet' property also?
* Butter, eggs as an optional ingredient for food.
* Pause time when any menu/inventory is open. As a new player, it's exciting to see all the new recipes unlocked with each level up, but it takes up precious in-game hours to browse through. It would also be great if we didn't have to spend an entire game day sorting through your inventory for that one ingredient.
* A way to purchase/build additional cooking+brewing stations? Having a second fermentation tank or oven, say, would be a big help to production.
* More decor! Bearskin rugs, wall mountings (swords, heraldry, etc). Table runners or coverings that help keep tables clean? More storage options like the Ubiquitous RPG Crate (tm), a stack of kegs, cupboards and cabinets.
* Hired staff to keep bedrooms clean and tidy.
* Some sort of incentive to open your tavern past 7:00pm (if there isn't one already); perhaps patrons are more likely to visit, or they order more food and drink. At present, keeping your tavern open past 7:00pm requires burning fuel for the fireplace, so it's more economical to open your tavern during the daytime and close up once it starts to get chilly.
- a recipe book would be grand; for example, if I want to make cheese bread, I always have to add the ingredient and write down the name of the dish, it would be easier to just be able to click on "cheese bread", and it's going to be produced, name and all.
- maybe I'm sexist here, but I still feel a tavern wench is necessary for cleaning the tables and serving the customers; maybe you should have the possibilty to hire male and female staff members.
- the possiblity to create and sell liquor / spirits / booze would bring more variety into your selection of drinks.
Perhaps add other alcohol that can be made this way (f.ex whiskey).
-Animals- Yep definetly a must be. Innkeepers often had some animals on the side. I also read womehere that you plan to automate some proccesess. I would suggest that later you can hire farmboy that takes care of animals if player is tired or is busy with something else. Maybe Bee Hives and honey...
-Bouncer- Yes, again touching the automation. We have magical broom for moping a worker for cleaning tables and a barman. But what of rowdy guests? Many times i have been doing some farming/cooking/brewing when someone is rude in tavern and need to go there and slap someone with mop(I would personally use blackjack/baton). Well, I introduce you - Mr Bouncer. He will be slapping rude clients for you! Since it is defacto fantasy setting why not make him a orc/ogre or something menacing looking.
-Filter in inventory/ Inventory sorting - It gets problematic to find stuff - there is so much of it! Maybe ability to expand inventory.
-Ability to create default recepies by the click of the button or that game remembers recepies you made "last time"- Like you made shiskebab with fish + corn + dill. You take stuff out and have like button or something as long you have right ingridients in inventory.
-Skill for cooking also makes food better quality and makes you more reputation
-Obvious rebelancing - some stuff is getting sold for too much - make f.ex shishkebab. Stuff is kinda unlocked too quickly. 2 days of intensive gameplay - Rep lvl 10 and all recepies unlocked .I didn't unlock all skills yet but I do have second oven and destiller and already have tons of stuff - more than I know what to do with!
-Ability to expand rooms
-MOAR furniture - and decorations! Rebalance construciton tree f. example have simple Have tiers of chairs.
-More events - Something that brakes routine. Exotic kind of foods that can be made only at this time. Cooking/brewing competition? or "King is gathering an army! He needs tons of food and ale to feed troops!" and other social events.
-Quests for adventurers - How many times were you sent to kill an basilisk for eggs to Inkeep can make omlette from them or meat of wyvern for fresh wyvern becon? Maybe something simpler like hunting the deer? Why for once sent those adventurers to do something for you?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ideas that are kinda outside original idea for the game but i think they would neat addition:
-Hunting?- It could give a player alternative way to gain meat - skins and heads can be sold or used to decorate inn. Wolfs/boars/deers you know typical.
-Adventuring? - It could be refreshing to leave tavern to hired help from time to time to do stuff.
-Weapons? - Yeah swords/hammers/bows(for hunting certain animals)
