Huge Log puzzle battle

Ok I've had it period! You developers need to fix this puzzle battle BS! Like ASAP! I've done this battle over 20 times to no avail! Why in the hell did you put these stupid puzzle battles in the game, WHY?! I was enjoying the game up until this point, but you've made it impossible to figure out the combinations of these cards MAINLY because we can't understand the meaning/description of certain cards, furthermore the cards presented aren't even the players original cards. I understand the cards my character has but when you do these puzzle battles your given cards you don't even have! This needs to be fixed! And I don't want to hear nothing about skipping the battle, what's the fun in that? Why purchase a game/be a kickstarter backer when playing the game only to have to skip areas because YOU/the developers made it near to impossible to figure out? Gimme a break already, I'm so effing pissed off right now its beyond belief, ugh!!!!!!

It took me about 10 tries getting closer each time. Really satisfying once you figure it out.
I think the more you play the better you will get. But a quick retry button would definitely help some of the pain between attempts.
At the beginning there are no offensive moves you can use (since he has block, and you need to dispell his buff but it would also dispell your waste effect). So you can use the damage immunity card 'in advance' since it does not expire (I think the term is ethereal?). This lets you go full offensive the next turn to take full advantage of the black card stacking.
Also keep in mind the time limit. If the battle is going to time out on the next turn there is no point using defensive cards at all on current turn.

I don't have access to these spells as I didn't trigger the optional task to retrieve a wooden idol.

Is it still possible to finish the puzzle without it ?

Nikolay gives this puzzle if you talk with him several times during the first chapter

Sorry, I think we didn't understand each-other.

I indeed am doing Nikolay's loyalty quest to find his hunter friend in the woods, but I didn't do the optional task of retrieving the wooden idol before the log puzzle.

My initial question was if it is possible to win the log puzzle without it, because I was struggling with it, and looking at the messages on the board, I had none of the spell people were talking about in my book.

I thought getting the idol would sort this out, so after my message I loaded a previous save and did the optional puzzle with the three chorts to retrieve it.

I'm at the log puzzle now, and still my spells aren't the one people talk about, so now I know getting the wooden idol has no influence on this fight.

I find it also weird because the three chort puzzle to retrieve the wooden idol was also different than what people talk about in discussions & guides. Is the difficulty chosen at the beginning of the game influencing the puzzles ?

Yes, the solution above is for the Nightmare puzzle. with easier difficulty puzzle you should use

I managed to end the fight with the bunch of Kila I had in my book. I don't know if I was being absent-minded or if there was an actual issue, tried to reload previous saves and re-do the fight but I still had the proper number of Kila to finish it, so all is good I suppose.

Well I neither have enough Kila to finish and I don't get any Demon Wizard as the developer suggests. So what exactly is the solution in such a case? I have Imperishable, 1 use for first round, but not enough power to break through and kill rest of hitpoints in round 2.
