It would be nice for some in-depth descriptions of the cards to make this at least doable.

I wont be asking for a refund because u can skip the puzzle battles if u fail them enough times. However, its atrocious what the Devs expected you to know to beat this First puzzle.

plus, you know, steam wouldn't have given you one if you've spent more than 2 hours playing.
also "what the devs expected you to know" is available entirely in the cards themselves.
i'm not saying the puzzle battles are easy or that i like them. i'm not much of a fan of them at all, but the first one was pretty simple to work out (the others i'll admit i looked up solutions in the forums) as there just aren't that many options.

I could not figure it out. I just dont understand the basic descriptions enough. Lost in translation. Still a great game tho. Style, Music, Voice Acting, Script, Lore. All brilliant.

Took me 5 attempts, I had the option to skip but wanted to beat it. Out of the 6 puzzles I did so far I only had to skip 1 so far. There are also some that are hilariously easy.

I just don't understand the bonuses and card meanings well enough.

I was just about to change my review to Positive because u can skip the puzzle battles...but I just got to the Fire Snake...and so far its impossible. lol!

Is there a trick on how to beat it?

Yeah I've never considered a refund because I was a kickstarter & enjoy the game very much but I guess the toughest thing for me is the card explanations just aren't clear enough, I mean some of them I don't even understand exactly what their description is in terms of buffs, attack power & so forth; this needs to be clarified much better.
