Avatar Pic - How to remove it?

I am new in the game and was auto-assigned an avatar - a pic of some smiling chick. Now I do understand that the other avatars are locked until my level increases - but can I at least remove that pic and leave it blank? I cannot find the "unequip" option or something similar
The Unequip option is present for the decorations next to your avatar but not for the avatar pic itself.
If someone can clarify this please....thank you!
