how to plant an apple tree?
i have hoed and fertilised the soil but keeps saying I have to prepare the ground

No fertiliser needed, hoe a small plot (one spot is all I think) the EQUIP the apple trees and a bag appears in your hand, look at the ground and when you left mouse the apple tree appears where the white target square is.

cheer for that, for some reason the patch of ground i was trying to plant in would not let me plant, but have found an area that will.

It seems to take more than one square, i usually manage with two or three the square seems slightly bigger for trees and raspberries. I get around it by using a field I have been using for crops. I had forty to plant so I just used the new orchard extension for crops this year and then put the trees in Kasimir is retiring from crop farming I had a fifty k year and decided that was enough of crop farming. I am toying with the idea of retiring him from moonshine as well as it does not seem to be good for him.

One is enough, but the visual and actual planting locations are slightly offset so you actually look like you are planting next to spot that looks worked

yes i usually hoe in about three to get the right spot
