How to sell chickens

I've got a few chickens that are getting close to the end of their lives and I was going to sell them, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to sell them.

Could someone explain how to go about doing that? I saw a video on YouTube where the guy was picking them up then somehow adding them to his inventory but the only options I seem to have are to release them or put them in a box, which doesn't seem to help me when I take them to a trader, as far as I can see there is no way to sell them without them being in the inventory.

Take them to the State farm animal dealer and put the crates into the enclosure next door to the dealer - then when you trade with him you will see an "animals" option just above your inventory.

Is there any option to add them into inventory, I saw a guy doing it in this video but just wondering if it's a mod or an old version of the game or something? Around the 6:15 mark.

I don't think so, I had a chicken in my inventory once but that was (IIRC) a reward after helping someone, I've not found a way to put them there yourself. You can fast travel while carrying them and you can carry at least two crates (or you can stack them on a trailer if you have one).

Tips: Go to the Chicken when they are asleep you have the option to capture or crate them then, you can carry four chickens by repeatedly pressing 'lift' 'F' and walk to the seller with four crates, you can buy them the same way. Be careful not to press 'E' as this is release and you've lost your chicken, unless you're a good runner.

In the Early Access time, all animals can be put in your inventory. It was a heaven that time, I can stuff 1 fox, 1 deer, 1 boar and even 1 bear in my inventory and crawl home. Chicken cna be put in inventory, but not cows.
