Horse race with Phillip

I'm trying (belatedly) to complete the Horse race. I have a horse and it's standing beside me as I talk to Phillip but every time he just says I need to get a horse of my own.

Does anyone who's done this know what I'm missing?

OK forget that - seems my horse, a mare, is not up to the job and a stallion is required. Don't know why that is. Seems a bit hard to me since horses are expensive and lots of people probably buy a mare.

While you are at it @bartis (and thank you) could you add "Lock the camera to the horses direction of travel" because it's sheer hell trying to turn the horse (or pig for that matter) when the POV changes faster than the animals direction and you and up looking backwards while galloping forwards! Not sure I'm ever going to manage this horse race while the camera works like this.

I just checked it for a horse and a pig. If I turn the animal the camera turns with it. I don't need to keep the rotation proper using mouse. So it seems to be working properly and I can't see any kind of directional delay.

I play at 60fps (vsync monitor at 1920x1080@60). Near as I can tell the camera turns about 170 degrees for every 90 that the animal turns. I also note that when I mount the camera starts off facing in a random direction (not the same way as the animal).

Tractor, Motorbike and Bicycle all work as they should.

I've tried going to 144htz and unlocking the FPS. Then I get around 100fps but there is no change to the animal riding.

Tried pig race 3 times, at start of the race the camera turns sideways to Peter, blindly enter the race with no control of direction. During the race I can either look downwards to search the pig's head while I not see path and gates or opposite. Given up, loaded an earlier save. Will continue the booze career without animals.

Yup, that's the same as me. Trouble is you need two hands to control the animal (speed and direction) and a third hand to keep the camera pointing ahead. I did hope I could map the mouse buttons to left-right turn so at least I'd have a hand on the mouse but unfortunately you can't do that.

And I really need to get this Horse race done to proceed with the main challenge

How do you fxxking win this stupid race? I tried 10 times with 2 injections. I could never WIN the race? It's driving me nuts

Horce race is very tricky. Gotta time well the hops over obstacles. It took me something like 8 or 9 attempts. It is also useful to block Philip or push him offtrack. Best to save the game just before the race, and load it back if you lose. Not a very elegant solution, but it works.

It's especially impossible when you can't see where you are going because your view turns sideways.

I think I'm pretty much stuck with this quest until they release a fix for the "camera turning faster than the horse" problem.

Yes, the camera views are not the strongest point of this otherwise great game. The head bob when riding the bicycle is nauseating. And I know what you mean with the horses. Your viewpoint doesn't change when the horse changes direction, and it is very disorienting.

In my case the view does change, faster than the animal turns so that I end up looking sideways while going forwards.

And here's another weird thing about the camera when on an animal...

I'm sitting on (in this case, a pig) and I'm looking at the pigs head.

I press the zoom (right mouse button)

The zoom view shows me a completely different angle, some times it's the pigs backside, sometimes its off to one side.

For me, camera view on animals is completely screwed up!

To do the horse race I didn’t jump any obstacles and I rammed him sideways from the start. I also had to completely remap the controls just for the race as the head movement is horrible honestly. This race was hard took me over half an hour till I gave up trying to jump and just started plowing him and the obstacles.

Love the game not a fan of animal riding not sure what the camera is doing but islets so hard to focus and control.

I also have a mapped controller I can’t do keyboard and mouse due to my carpel tunnel. So maybe that’s why but everything else in game works great.
