The painting in the ending?

So Vogel gives you an awful looking painting in all endings - it's always the same and it depicts Sherlock in a ghastly way. How did you interpret it?
I personally saw it as the depiction of the trauma Sherlock keeps locked inside - behind his fair facade and assurance, he's a broken shell of a man inside. At least, according to Vogel, who is not the most objective character either.
