This looks weird
From the screens and videos that have been shown, it seems like the devs have really misunderstood their audience. No one wants a shooty shooty young hip Sherlock Holmes, the entire point is he's a visceral thinking man who uses intelligence above all. Yes he can shoot, yes he can fight, yes he can do pretty much everything, but he uses his wits to solve unsolvable crimes.

It's such a weird pivot away from what the other games and Sherlock is about, that I really struggle to see how or why its been done. Feels like its an attempt to grab a different audience, but its a niche game and always will be right? Why piss off the main fan base?

I could be very much wrong, willing to be proven wrong, but I'll definitely hold off on a day 1 purchase now until I see the reviews and can find out how much action has been crammed into our adventure game.

I do hope its good, but the longer things go on and the more I see and hear, I really worry about it. I hate people who wish ill will on the devs, no one sets out to make a bad game, this game might be good! I hope it is. But if you put in a feature that can be entirely turned off, thats not like any other game in the series, missing nothing in the process, what was the point of the feature?

Because we do believe that it's a good feature. But people tend to make up their minds about something long before they get to actually experience it - it's par for the course for any product that introduces changes to a previously established formula.

We have been through this numerous times before, so it's not surprising. Even with Crimes & Punishments we went through the same thing, and now it's the fan favorite Frogwares game.

I do not know if we can do anything to change your mind, but these customization options are here for you. If you don't even want to give the new features a chance, turn them off. Turn off the combat and enjoy the game for what it is - a detective thriller that follows in the footsteps of the investigation gameplay of Crimes & Punishments.

It's supposed to look weird because this is a young and different holmes. Frogwares is imagining how Sherlock was before he became the one we know.

I am very excited to see this vision and I think the whole "what really happens to him to be like this" vibe is great

But why? The character shown in this looks so far removed from actual sherlock holmes! Not to mention all the weird FPS elements.

Why make a game that is nothing like what your target audience wants.

@Pyktuna you gave resident evil 6 a positive review, your opinion is void.

No one wants a Sherlock Holmes prequel. Literally no one.

I also have fears about how this "backstory" could possibly turn out, but I am willing to give Frogwares the benefit of the doubt - after all, when I started to play The Devil's Daughter I also thought it to be unbearable as a fan of the previous entries in the series, but I quickly got accustomed to the restyling of Holmes&Watson in terms of looks and voices, and totally enjoyed the story (yes, even the hard QTEs and deadly action sequences, which were still fitting to the character in my opinion).

Hopefully they won't let us down and after playing through this new game we will still be able to say "This is totally what I believe the famous detective from Baker Street could have done when he was young". and not instead "Wait, how in the world did he change that much in modus operandi and personality growing up?".

The "Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)" [www.imdb.com] film has much better assumptions than this game...

The story of this upcoming game proposes the usual plot seen in countless films of the genre....
The basic idea is present in an infinite number of books, films and similar stories.

I guess the ending won't be original either...

Sorry, but you don't have a product with characteristics that induce the purchase: the sadness that shines through this presentation makes you run away.

away, away, away...

100% agree to the op, its strange to make a trailer showing sherlock 90% shooting&fighting (i almost thought i clicked on the wrong game:). I hope that the action will not stand above everything else in the end. It seems they try to focus more on the movies with robert downey jr. (which wasnt a good movie for holmes fans too, but very successfull moneywise).
it comes down to the Devil's Daughter selling much better than any other Holmes game prior. It is an unfortunate reality that the fanbase simply is not large enough to maintain expectations from the developer. They want the casual drive-by sales that women and stupid people make on impulse and "sexy emo goth victorian young dracula Sherlock" seems to be a hot ticket. Expect more of this; the stupid masses want silly action sequences and mindless entertainment. Just enjoy the irony.

RIP. The masses ruin another franchise

I must say, the classic investigation parts seem ten times better than all previous installments. Let's hope they will end up making the game great even with a young Sherlock and we'll also be able to avoid combat as much as possible.

Absolutely no interest in combat at all, still think this looks a bit weird....just a really odd direction.
