Running profitable resorts with staff becomes impossible?
I've been trying to get this to work, but it just seems like there's something very flawed about profits VS the cost of having staff hired for the various resorts.

Sure, you might have garbage collecting in the motel and have it still make a profit, but chef + garbage collecting becomes difficult at best in Highlake as rooms only give around 230-ish per night and you can only have so many well furnished rooms since size requirements go up (maybe you'll make a little bit more there at 5 stars, I doubt it'll be a significant increase though).

And then you get to the resorts that require heating and... I just don't understand how this is supposed to work? Ski resort requires 2 T3 heaters per cabin to stay warm when the temperature creeps down to -15, and hiring the heater guy for those 4 heaters cost 2600, which is a lot because you don't get much per room. If you then add garbage collection + chef on top of that... I would really like to see what kind of layout the devs used to test this to have made it stay profitable.

I don't really see Pine Falls being much better, since you will again need two T3 heaters per cabin to keep warm (just barely need that second heater it looks like, kind of infuriating really). And then the cost of the rest of the staff.

Am I missing something here? I pretty much need garbage collection to be able to afford decorations because oh boy do they become expensive. The cooking minigame got old really fast, especially with having to run around the world to forage and a lot of ingredients are really expensive so idk if cooking on my own would even be effective... and heating it gonna be astronomically expensive regardless of wether you buy fuel or hire the guy, 'cause you're probably not gonna be able to forage enough fuel to keep those heaters going.

Hey, you do need a number of rooms to start turning a profit with Staff, as well as building them well to ensure 5 star reviews for the bonuses, but it's a valid concern that staff costs might be a bit overtuned.
We're looking at fixing this soon in an upcoming hotfix and balance patch.

How many rooms per resort is the vision here? 'Cause I'm at 4 in the farmhouse, it seems to be about what I can fit unless I remove my fancy kitchen and stick the chef in a tiny T1 kitchen (I should do that anyway because of those decoration penalties). The Higher tier bedroom furniture takes so much space that I'm really confused on what kind of quality vs quantity I should be aiming for with rooms.

Farmhouse has an upper floor if you don't know. You can put kitchen there and use a bathroom in between to separate it from the bedrooms.
Got 7 well working T4 bedrooms in that place at the moment and getting quite a nice profit from from it.

I'm aware of that. I've got two bedrooms and a bathroom up there. Guess I'll have to go for more cramped rooms in the future since spacious and luxurious isn't an option.

im gaining money nonstop while having staff active in all my resorts aside from the trash one as I lost the need to keep him going at one point.

I build nice bedrooms that I try to fit the highest tier of furniture I can make into in a way that looks reasonable and leaves space for some decorations. Usually it's 4x5, 5x5 if there's space, but even that seems to get cramped since the T5 bedroom furniture is so big.

my bedrooms are cramped as f and usually try to cram as many bedrooms as I can in a resort to maximsize the profit from it as there is no cost for maintanance.
while also helping me clear out resort missions much faster as well.

It's true that Highlake might be the worst to balance with auto, because Winterberry and Pinefall are exponentially bigger and allow for many more rooms, so income from Highlake might need to be slightly subsidized at the moment. Looking at some balance for this soon.

That's... enlightening.

Building storage closets wasn't really what I wanted from this game, but I guess I'll put my tetris skills to use if I can't make up for the costs in Pine Falls.
