bit of a silly question, can't seem to find the darkgrove and sage?

Go to Sawdust (the forest area) and keep going left.

The quest really should have said where to find Darkgrove, I only knew it because I found that exit early by exploring the maps.

Before the patches, the quest tip said the sage was in the eastern part of Darkgrove; it's actually in the south west corner (they may have updated the text). Open your local Map view and you'll see the locations marked on there.

yeah I needed to look for this too. It should really say "Go west of sawdust to darkgrove"
