Is this game DRM-free on Steam, such that it can be run without the client running?

Hello,

I know Unpacking is on GOG, however, it has not gone on sale in literally almost seven months now, so at this point, I don't think it is ever going to go on sale there again. I am really only interested in buying during a sale, so I may only end up being able to get this on Steam, but I also only buy games that DRM-free.

Does anyone know if this game can be run as a .exe, if removed from the steam commonapps folder, without the client being open, eg it does not use any kind of Steam wrappers that lock it into the launcher? If so, I'll just buy it here.

During this current sale on Steam I bought it here to see if it's DRM-free, and the answer is a bit complex. While the game itself is indeed DRM-free such that it can launch without Steam running in the background, there is no way to save your progress without the Steam client, as the save folder is directly linked to Steam; so each time I start up the game, I would have to start a fresh save file, unless I run the game through the client, which I don't want to do. I have thus requested a refund, ugh.

I guess I'll have to wait for eternity to buy the game on GOG, then, since I'm not really willing to lose saving features...

thank you, but i really don't want to wait for another GOG sale, it's taking too long and it's significantly more frequent here.so if the game is drm-free here, i'd rather just get it here on the next sale...

like right now... the game's on sale, here on Steam, so I would like to buy now if it's DRM-free here... does anybody know if it is?

Do you know when it will go for sale next on GOG?
This is taking way too long, and I'm losing my patience tbh. There's a point where I'm just not going to buy it at all if I have to wait much longer.

We can't speak to the timing of future sales publicly, but you're welcome to wishlist it on GOG and they will notify you when it goes on sale.
