Thank you for purchasing Unpacking! If you are having any technical issues with the game, look no further than this thread.

The following are not bugs (warning, contains spoilers):
  • Can't find a spot for the diploma in 2010
  • Can't find a spot for the picture in 2012
These are puzzles! If you are struggling with them, there are answers in threads right here in the forum and in guides elsewhere on the internet.

General issues:

I changed something in the settings and now I can't click anything!

You've accidentally rebound your clicking button to something other than your left mouse button. follow these steps to reset the controls:
  1. Right click on Unpacking in your Steam library and select "Properties..." from the drop-down menu.
  2. At the bottom of the "General" tab, you'll see an empty text field with "Launch options" written above it. Write "resetcontrols" in that box.
  3. Close the properties window and launch the game. Your controls should be reset to default.
  4. Open the properties window again and remove "resetcontrols" from your launch options so that your controls won't be reset each time you start the game.

My cursor won't move or moves on its own!

You may have a controller or another mouse plugged in that's interfering with your cursor. Try unplugging the controller or second mouse before launching the game.


Mac-specific issues:

I'm using a Mac so I can't right-click, how do I rotate items?

You can right-click on a Mac by holding down the control key while clicking. If you're using a track pad you can also right-click by tapping the track pad with both fingers. Alternatively, you can rebind right-click to something else in the settings menu.


After I type my name into the album and press the golden arrows, the game crashes.

This is an issue specific to OSX 10.12 (Sierra). Unpacking only supports OSX 10.13 and up, as stated in the system requirements on our store page. Sorry about that!


The pause menu text isn't showing up.

We’ve recently fixed this issue. Please ensure you get the latest update for the game, and it should go away.

I just got an update to the game and now my save files don't show up anymore. It's acting like a just started the game.

Yikes! Can you double check and see if the save files are on the same drive as the game? We've found a bug where if that's not the case, it doesn't register them (and we're working on squashing it!) -- and we haven't pushed an update to the game since earlier this year! Might try force quitting Steam & seeing if that helps?

My custom keybinds no longer work after the last update. If I try to change them or reset to default, it shows in the menu that its been changed, but the keys don't respond when playing.

Game is crazy laggy for no reason. I have an i7 and a 7900xt and It's unplayable. I've reinstalled, verified integrity. Updated video drivers. restarted my pc. nothing helps. Please help me out

Oh, my bad. I mistook your July post for an update. I'm on PC and no idea what changed to make it stop working. I tried the "verify file integrity" thing and that did nothing for it. What I did was set up, down, left, and right to the WASD keys. W and S work for up and down, but A and D stopped working for left and right.

Not a worry! If you switch them back to arrows (or change to other keys?) do they work, and it's just A/D or is it any key that's set to side to side?

Left/right doesn't work no matter what buttons they're set to. I tried multiple combos as well as just clicking Reset To Default.

Hello,

I started to play two days ago for about 2 hours. The next day, I discovered that my progression was lost (the 3 books were empty but I still had the stickers collection).
I removed the "save on steam cloud" option and played again, I tried to quit the game and launch it again, it seemed like it worked. But today, all my progression is lost again.

I disinstalled and reinstalled the game several times, the game and the saving files are on the same drive. It seems to work but if I shut down my computer, the save is gone.
What can I do please ? It's so frustrating, I really like the game but it's so annoying.

Hi there—SO sorry to hear this! This feels like a new iteration of what we've been seeing unfortunately, we'll pass it along to our team and hopefully have a solution for you ASAP! (also: assume you're playing on PC? Did you try verifying the files in Steam as well—always worth trying but I don't know if it will fix it in this case)

It was originally on my D: drive, but after the save loading issues I tried to move it to the C: drive. Still no luck on loading saves. Force quitting steam didn't fix it either.

As for the update, Steam seems to send small "updates" for games. Not sure what it really means but it's usually only a hand full of kB, so it doesn't seem like any real changes. Though I only ran into this issue after the "update" occurred.

Yes I play on PC, I also tried to verify the files in Steam, nothing wrong is reported.
I will continue to try and find a solution. I'll tell you if I find something.

I cannot create any gifs in 2013. Each room plays through for awhile, before cutting to a freeze frame of the office. I can back out of it, but the replays never continue, nor does the encoding menu pop up. In replay mode for 2013, the replay also freezes at the same freeze frame of the study.

I have similar issues with 2018. Involving gifs freeze framing at the wrong times, before the rooms were done, but still encoding. In replay and gif mode, the study has a notebook that bugs out, and appears to stand in the middle of the shelf. Any attempts to make a gif of the study does not work. It freezes and will not encode. In normal replay mode, the game freezes in the bathroom in the same fashion as before. It can be backed out of, but the replay with not continue and there is no encoding. Every room can have gifs made, except for the study and the bathroom in 2018.
