If you want call it compas you entitled ♥♥♥♥.
So as a general rule of thumb: don't buy a game on release, except perhaps 1st party games (like some on consoles). In KB2's case: wait for a few months months or at least several patches. Judge the game based on that version.
I was specifically referring to the identity of the series in the first game, not the quality of the first game. The quality of the first game is mostly irrelevant at this point, except as a point of comparison for the "sequel". And anything looks good in comparison to the sequel.
But since you brought it up... the quality of the first game was not great. It's simply too many identical and near-identical fights without much to break it up and without much incentive to continue. It did at least have a decent look to it, and some halfway fun abilities and spells in combat. It wasn't a complete disaster on the whole like 2 is.
Then why should anyone engage with you since you've obviously already made up your mind?
Funny how ready you are to spam your opinions as if you believe everyone needs to hear it while at the same time talking out of the other side of your face about the need to engage.
Maybe you need hours to decide if you like something or not, but... If I don't like a game within 5 minutes, I'm not going to suddenly like it at some point after that. Many people are like this.
That goes both ways. Some also gave KB2 a thumbs up score after the same 30 minutes, even lacking a thorough explanation in the review. So who's right? Honestly, I tend to ignore reviews the first 24 hours after release. First let the dust settle and see how things are after people have cooled their heels.
It's "flimsy" in that it only took parts of the HoMM formula when it should have taken all or none. Partway didn't work very well. At best, it gave them a chance to prove they could do better with a sequel, and now they've destroyed their reputation forever.
I suspect a new team worked on this game, which is exactly why classic KB fans are starting to get upset about it.
It's only redeeming factor is combat, but that is overshadowed by the other 70-80% of the game which is NOT combat.
