That is a very uneducated and dumb remark. Every engine gets recycled. have a look at Unreal Engine, that has been around since 1998 and now is one of the most popular engines. Frostbyte engine of the shait game BF5 has been around since 2008. Just saying, don't reinvent the wheel when you have the logics available. Improve the wheel instead.
