Local vs Onlice co-op
Is there a big advantage to playing online vs local co-op? Like, in local you have to stay on the same screen while in online co-op you can venture further apart? Or maybe save game/character advantages or items etc.?

I would rather just play local co-op if there's not a big difference, but can get two copies and play with one person on steam deck or something if it would be much batter.

In local cop-op, players have to stay within the screen bounds, however we do zoom out the camera at times to make this a bit more manageable. This is not the case for online co-op.

In local co-op meta progression is shared between all players and all players share the same Ember Tree upgrades. In online co-op, meta progression is separate and each player can pick their own Ember Tree upgrades.
