Shared fate curse randomly breaks
So we have been playing with shared fate because its really fun, but we've noticed that we sometimes randomly get many ticks of damage in less than 1 second by just one random attack, which ends up doing like 80 damage even if we are in the first area, basically instakilling all of us or maybe having one survivor at most.

We think it might be related to the purple crystals since we noticed it happens mostly (if not only, not sure about that) on those rooms, but it´s really annoying and we would really appreciate if it got fixed.

This was happening to my group as well. After a few runs, I'm 100% positive it's only happening in rooms where there are the purple crystal protecting enemies. Like maybe any damage taken bounces back between us per the number of players in the game, which in a lot of cases was enough to insta-kill the whole party.

I'd love for this to be fixed! Shared Fate is fun as heck and adds an entirely new balance to the game. This bug kinda ruins it.

Hello!
Just wanted to pop in here and share some insight on this issue. I can confirm this issue happens when taking damage from a Praxis buffed enemy as you guys have mentioned.

We've been looking into this issue for a long while now and unfortunately it seems like it will be no small undertaking to fix. It will most likely require an entire rework of either the Shared Fate difficulty mod, or the Praxis Buffed enemies. It is definitely something that is on our radar, but also something that will take a lot of work...

Hey! So I was in said group above. I'm wondering do you guys know what specifically it is that is causing it? It's definitely any time the crystals are around so I'm thinking there's something being overlooked specifically with that enemy(?). I don't know for certain if it insta-kills us if we kill the crystals first and then get hit.

Yup, its the fact that when you get hit by a Praxis Buffed enemy (the enemy connected to the crystals). The game tries to also apply damage to other nearby players (When an enemy with this buff hits you, it deals AoE damage), and shared fate causes this damage to cascade between players and become very large as its trying to re-apply and then share that damage between all players.

Because of this interaction, some part of either of the sytems will have to be reworked, which is more complex than the average bug fix.

So the simplest solution would probably be to take away their splash damage ability, although that's probably not as easy to do as it sounds, huh? I'm not a programmer/coder.

In theory, yes that would solve the issue. But that brings up the question of adding some kind of alternative effect to maintain the difficulty of Praxis Buffed enemies.

We could just strip away the functionality, but that is generally a last resort when it comes to bug fixes.

Would it be possible to remove it only if you are playing with shared fate at least until some other fix is done?

Hmm, that may be possible. I'd have to check with the rest of the team.
If we're not able to get it fixed for the next update I'll see if we can maybe do something like this.

Great, thanks for the quick responses

Invincibility frames upon getting hit (when using shared fate) might work? We did learn that if someone dodges at the moment they would have taken damage from a teammate, they don't get hurt at all, so maybe having a really quick invincibility frame after a person gets hit might negate the overlapping of the quadruple damage?

Found this post after getting 2 party wipes from it :(

I don't like the idea of losing the AOE from them. Maybe you could put some kinda catch in there that stops shared fate from triggering more then x times at once or within 1 sec?

The i-frames idea is good too, I just wouldn't want it to be too cheeseable.

This doesn't seem to happen to us when playing with just 2 ppl, that may be coincidence tho. But we do have it happen way more when there are 3 or 4 powered-up dudes. Spitting up in those rooms seems to help but not always, I think it might also happen when two powered enemies hit one player at the same time?

Our party wipes:
We were playing in a group of 4 and we hit a praxis encounter in the ice zone and it insta-killed all of us.

The next pass we thought we'd outsmart it by using Guardian Angel (the ember tree thing that gives you a shield once a world instead of a revive.) All four of us set Guardian Angel & We hit the same praxis encounter in the ice room with the same set of knights and witches and they instantly board wiped us again. Guardian Angel never triggered for any of us at all. So game over. :(

I've stopped using Guardian Angel with shared fate b/c I've gotten killed with it a few times, I don't think the shield protects you from shared fate damage :frowning: Maybe it needs more i-frames, I don't use it too often though. The description makes it sound like it should provide a temporary 1 second shield like Barrier Pendant, but it doesn't. It seems to immediately heal 40 HP only if you wouldn't die anyway, allowing the character to die if the damage is an extreme overkill.

Great game, annoying bug. About to hit 200 hours. Not stoppin' from this either. :)
