The new weapon changes made the game unfun.
I have unlocked 103/103 items, every ability, and every weapon mod for ashes.

After 112 hrs in the game, the most recent update straight up made the game not even fun to play. It seems that there is less power in the weapons and more power in the items (the new items are a long overdue addition imo). This however makes the game feel overly RNG dependent from run to run as more items are included in the game it statistically means you have even less of a chance of getting your "Ideal" item. I used to reliably get some semblance of a build each run but since the new update, I've beaten the game normally and on true ending mode. But aside from those two runs where the sun aligned, it didn't matter how well I played if my items were bricked so was I and not in the fun way.

Hammer losing it's ability to dodge roll > leap attack now makes the hammer feel...quite honestly awful and some of my first wins were WITH the hammer it was one of my most played weapons in the game. Scythe suffers from the same issue, basing the power of the kit in getting "slashes" off which is a skill that slows you dramatically which is too much of a determent for the minuscule advantage actually getting it off gives you. With the scythe pre...this most recent patch, I'd run the ice augment + extra slash because it felt that the wait was worth the reward. With both the Hammer and Scythe there is no reward for your risk, it's just risk. That is not fun.

The other weapons feel fine mostly, (Sad to see the teleport and floating chak disappear) and do what I feel the original statement that the patch notes included intended to do. Which was expand the versatility of weapons and open it to a variety of different play-styles. The sword having access to lightning, bow gaining bonuses with landing perfect shots, the staff gaining a radius instead of cone for the charged attack. To name a few, but the ball was fumbled on some of the other weapons entirely.

I don't see why the current abilities couldn't have just been added in addition to the previous ones in either a 4th option on the track, or a new track entirely with 3 different abilities. More isn't necessarily a bad thing especially in a game like this which can benefit greatly off of diversity. With the coexistence of the previous weapon abilities and the current ones I can see every weapon being viable for different reasons, and catering to enough play-styles that would cover most people.

After my play session tonight, I don't know. I just. Wasn't having fun. It could be the 100+ hours, but I wasn't even playing alone as I usually don't. It was with friends and afterwards I just wanted to uninstall the game. It just felt, ruined.

Couldn't agree more.

Booting up the game to find the scythes 4 hit combo, the swords extra relic, the bows slowdown. and the razor winds stationary spinning blade, all removed... that was rough. I feel like I lost every single upgrade I actually used.

While I do find melee to be harder I still don't have any issues clearing doom with all the weapons. Its pretty easy to get a build going with items since most of them are powerful.

Items being the multiplier of power is pretty common in rogue likes so I don't see whats wrong with the current system. The only element i'm not a fan of is poison.

Why not have both? Strong weapons and strong items? I'm a player of rogue-likes, I have a combined honestly at this point 800+ hours across the genre. I never said the game was difficult, I never said I had a huge issue WINNING runs as stated.

I'm saying that the most important aspect of any game has been taken away and that's FUN. The reason why anyone plays games is for fun, maybe challenge yes and there are people like myself that enjoy and take the fun of a challenge. However there is a line between challenging and something just straight up being un-fun. Myself and the other people of this thread, my friends...are no longer enjoying the game with the most recent changes (Even a couple of neg reviews made sharing this view as well). They felt unnecessary especially when as I stated, we could've have had the changes and updates in addition to what was already there?

Why take away options and give worse ones? That doesn't make any sense to me.

I have a difficult time seeing why I wouldn't just go on RoR:R or any other rogue-like that does what this game is trying to accomplish but better? The myriad of playstyles across the game was what kept myself and others playing, every weapon had their "thing" and it was good. You could make it work. (You still can, it just feels worse. Mechanically refer to the statement about the Scythe and Hammer.) It just feels worse to play.

I've never had any issues with any of the updates but this one in particular, sucks. To be frank, and there isn't anything wrong with airing out that grievance so that the devs see it. Even if you don't enjoy the position. Because you can't tell me that the game can't be better, or that there aren't places where it can be improved no?

Edit: Sentence fixes.

after patch game seems harder to me but it's due to very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ items/skils rng than before

For some reason, any time a game is considered "easy" the devs take the route of nerfing the player to oblivion to create this sense of "increased difficulty" and also taking out the fun aspect of the game. I get that roguelikes are supposed to be hard but almost all roguelikes also give you runs where you feel like a god and just blast through everything.

That sensation was there up to 1.0. I've stopped playing after beating the game in Doom difficulty in patch 1.0. Came back to it after seeing all the updates. Feel like they made the game worse. It's so boring

Maybe it's just me, but after time with this game again after the update, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

For example, we get these "perfect room" relics. The idea being, don't get touched. Cool, no problem. I feel as though there were modifications to the enemies attack frames that was not disclosed to us, and I feel like I can't dodge worth a dime anymore. That unless I FREEZE everything by quickly dashing though with a freeze ability, I'm going to get roflstomped by things that were easily escapable. That I'm having to prematurely dodge and interrupt my flow of attack.

Worlds 1, 2, and 3 felt like this was always obtainable. 4 began tripping me up sometimes with how much screen noise is going on. 5 was manageable. Now, World 1 seems the only likely stage to get perfects.

And even if get lucky with getting enough damage built up from Gems (Because they're not common anymore and +2 is a laugh), an endless run becomes a slap in the face with the sudden increase of enemy stats. Not even a creep up in power. Just a middle finger.

Hi all,

As always, we appreciate your feedback.
We're going to be making some adjustments for 1.3 based on the feedback we've received from 1.2. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
