You might have problems because you are using a keyboard that includes other devices, such as a build-in trackpad. Try to switch it off before the game loads.

None of the regular fixes worked for me. I have to physically unplug my Razer Orbweaver for it to read the controller. An option to switch which controller we're using would be amazing. :D

not worked for me too, my XB controller for PC isn't detected only on this game, waiting for an update :)

not worked for me... no one of my controllers work in this game... but in other games work perfectly! pls fix this!

Wont work for me either. Even if I unplug my K&M I can't get past the continue screen. Controller only reads for player 2. This sucks.

Look in the device manager (printer and devices) if some other device has a (virtual) "gamecontroller" installed and disable only that.

Nintendo Pro Controller is not working! I tried it multiple times.

ok, I solved my issue : I had forgot my Razer Tartarus v2 (an additionnal game keyboard hidded below lot of... things on my desktop), after disconnect it from computer, it's ok : my wireless XB360 controller works fine !

A couple things I notied:
1) If Steam Input is enabled, Mouse and Keyboard will always be Player 1. Up to three Steam Input devices, either Xbox Playstation or Nintendo controllers will work for players 2-4, but none of them can control menus or start a game without the keyboard as a player. If you have an Xbox or Playstation controller and are playing alone on one PC, turn off Steam Input. Also, all controllers in-game look like Xbox controllers, even when they're Switch or Playstation.
2) If Steam Input is disabled, control becomes a bit of a free-for-all, with the first possible controller taking P1 along with keyboard & mouse. Also if you have a fancy gaming keyboard or mouse, unplug it for now because the game detects it as a separate controller. Playstation controller as P1 gets recognized properly with button glyphs when Steam Input is off, so this is something that the game engine is taking care of properly, but is not properly managed by Steam Input.
3) If you'd rather do Remote Play Together with those who don't own the game, you have to turn off Steam Input and Steam Big Picture to allow remote players. I haven't tested, but as long as the remote player doesn't have access to the keyboard, they should connect fine as P2-P4.

One other thing to note, now that I got a chance to play on Steam Deck, there are no controller mixups, Deck is recognized as Xbox P1 with the recommended config, not sure if there are Deck-exclusive button glyphs. If I stream play to the Deck, the Deck can only join as P2-P4, P1 must use the keyboard on the host computer.

Now I play on Windows, so maybe only this OS has the keyboard-P1 priority problem. If anyone else is still struggling in the meantime, try playing the game using Steam on Linux or Steam OS, like the Steam Deck.

hi all, another quick update: we've put a lot of work in to address the various controller issues. our next update (end of the month) will include these improvements.

Hi there, i have issues to remap controller buttons. It doesn't work with my xbox controller, same problem with my powera controller :(
edit: remapping worked in game! (not in the main menue)

Trying to play with my Nintendo Pro controller. But the bindings are wrong. I tried remapping them in the game, but it doesn't work. Now my bindings are all messed up.
I don't see a button to reset them, does anyone know how I do that?
Do I need to re-install?
